Modern Vespa

In England when I grew up we had an expression that was used for many different things and it went on the lines of blah! blah! rules OK!

For example, 'Vespas rule OK', 'The Queen rules OK!' (pun intended), 'West Ham United rules OK!', etc, etc and so on and so forth...

But, the best one I ever heard or read is one that for the life of me I cannot remember. It was a chemical formula for a substance (probably an acid) that ended OK. As in O for Oxygen and K for Potassium!

Hence: 'Blank', 'Blank' rules 'Multiple blanks' OK

So put on your chemistry hats and tell me what was the compound or substance and what was it's chemical formula. I will find a suitable Ozzie prize for the first person who gets it!

PS I couldnt find it on google-try searching for a chemical compound ending in OK, you get nowhere!!! I have been looking for this for more than twenty years now-no shit!

I'm no chemist (played with a chemistry kit as a boy) but most formulas I found had potassium first and oxygen second. However I think what you might be referring to is Potassium Nitrate. I found the chemical formula on Wikipedia and it did have the "OK" in the molecular representation. This might be what you remember.

You've got me stumped on this one. Potassium does not generally play well with Oxygen. They usually end up making a bunch of noise and resorting to violence.
There are only a few oxides with Potassium, and they all have a "2" in the compound.

While in my search I looked up the rules for the order of molecules in a formula. It went carbons first, then hydrogen, then everything else in alphabetical order. Therefore Potassium "K" could not come after Oxygen "O".

Then again, I'm no chemist, never took chemistry, nothing past basic science. Only chemistry I concern myself is that between my wife and I.

You are correct on default naming convention. However, when compounds contain single bonds (singular atoms of an element), or when it becomes easy to name a compound and also somewhat describe its physical configuration, it is allowable, even recommended, to state them in a different order.

Examples:
HOH = H2O
LiOH (lithium hydroxide)
FOOF (fluorine dioxide)
F*** (yes, spelling exactly what you think, short for L-fuculokinase, an enzyme), naming the compound
HEH (helium hydride)
and... wait for it...

This is very, very close but Potassium ethylate produced as Potassium ethoxide is C2H5KO which is technically correct by inverting the K and O

but ethyl alcohol is CH3CH2OH not OK!
