I am considering buying this for my PX150:

http://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/luggage+carrier+rear+cuppini+_75238000

My wife thinks I shouldn't junk it up, but at present there is really no place to tie anything down and my daughter will only ride the GTV because it has a backrest on the topcase.

As always, I would really appreciate the input of the MV community.

How is the quality and sturdiness of Cuppini chrome accessories?

Do I need a longer seat post or not?

Any drawbacks whether stylistic or functional?

Would you want one or something like this, or should I keep it clean like my wife suggests?

Thanks in advance!

My PX had one from the previous owner and I thought it was ugly (my $0.02) so it was the first thing I took off. Since I ride solo form came ahead of function.

I won't comment on functionality or looks.. but Cupini stuff is pretty well made in my limited experience.. sturdy. I had a front rack and side stand.. both Cupini and they were not flimsy..

Whilst I prefer the clean looks of a scooter, I think that passenger comfort is a major bonus.
I too have a daughter that has been riding on the back with me since she was 3 - she has now just finished restoring her own 50s ready for her first ride in a few weeks.

In my experience, I got significantly more use & pleasure out of my scooters because my daughter & wife were happy to go on the back with me. My latest purchase doesn't have a backrest & they are not so comfortable on the back of it.

The favoured combination for me is the 80's style flipover backrest and the normal backcarrier. This had huge carrying ability (we have done long family touring camping holidays with this), the flipover doesn't make the back-carrier quite so conspicuous, plus it also gave the passenger a fairly comfortable & relaxed ride. But it is a lttle harder to fit as they do interfere slightly.
The short stubby backrest you are looking at, used to hurt my daughter as vibrated into her mid back.
As for Cupini - they are ok and mid range of the accesory brands. Personally I try to go for Stainless these days rather than Chrome, but it does limit selection. But I have had the above combination on my P2 for well over 10 years now in a coastal environment and it is still in pretty good condition.

I would recommend going for the longer seat post and it will definately be required if you use any combination of more than one accessory.

Thanks! Do you still have it and is it in good shape? I live just around the Beltway from you in Alexandria - I would love to check it out sometime!

I would be curious to hear your opinions on functionality and looks if you have them, but otherwise, thanks for the input!

Thanks for the most detailed response of all (I was getting kind of desperate for any response there at one point). I understand the issue with the low backrest, but is this the one (more or less) that has lasted over 10 years for you? If so, I may go with it - I will probably still take my daughter mostly on the GTV, but this would be a fun option from time to time for her.

BTW, thanks for the input on the seat post.

I supose I could have added those! d'oh! my bad!... looks: not my thing.. to much oing on with handles and back rest, but that just me.. functionality: I guess if it holds stuff then it's functional.. looks like it holds stuff.. so that's a check!

Sturdy stuff.. so if that's the style you like then I'd say you'd do well if you bought one!

Cheers Piglet

No, it's actually the flipover that has lasted 10+yrs, but there is no reason why the type you like should not give the same service. It sounds like you have made your mind up - so go for it !!

Just to clarify & give context to my previous ramblings I've posted 2 pics of my old P2 unloaded & loaded touring with the family around Spain.

Great pictures! I love the wake boards on the Vespa! My wife is from Spain and that is where I fell in love with Vespas (and her, of course)! We are going back there next month. How is it that you were in Spain with your Vespas since it appears that you are from Canada?

Back to the topic, I have checked S.I.P., Scooterwest, Motorsport Scooters, and a few other spots online and the one I am looking at seems to be the closest to what I am looking for (without a lot of other options, I might add, other than one with a spare tire carrier which is already built into the PX). You are right that this is my first choice, but it is definitely not a necessity which is why I am being more cautious than usual. I may be better off with nothing, but knowing me, I cannot resist these temptations for too long

Thanks for the input! If anybody knows a better place to shop than where I have checked, please let me know.

I am a bit of a fraud - I am a Brit living in Canada, in the last few years all of our summer holidays have been touring around Europe on scooters. The highlights being Northern Spain and Italy, so I totally appreciate what you were saying.
I have 2 of my scooters arriving from the UK next week (finally!!) so looking forward to some N.American touring soon, although I will need to do some work & add some accessories on my Canadian PX beforehand.

Good luck with that final decision process ! Remember - most of these just un-bolt if you don't like them & there is always someone that will take it off your hands - so you really don't have that much to lose.

I pulled the trigger and I love it!
Just arrived from SIP today! Long seat post bolt from ScooterWest arriving later this week. I am very happy with both the looks and functionality, and my daughter loves it too (now I can ride vintage and modern with her). Thanks again for helping me think this one through!

Opposite angle
This is the view of the rack which seems to be very substantial.

Hi there.

I'm new around here and this is my first post.

I have a Vespa PX 125 from 2015 and wanna know if a backrest with carrier like the one above fits my scooter. Anyone knows about that?

Does anyone also knows if a mudguard like this one

http://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/bumper+mudguard+front+travel_64025450

is suitable for my Vespa model?

Sorry about my bad english and thanks a bunch for having me here.

Both of those will fit on a P series scooter.

I have a folding backrest like that, but without the grab bars on the sides, it looks pretty cool with that feature.
