So without getting in to specifics...

Monday of last week, the day after Amerivespa the buckle mechanism on my Schuberth C3 broke. Called up Schuberth who told me to take it to my local dealer and they would send it in. So I run it over there and they ship it out, this was last week on Tuesday. So now here it is a week later and I talked to Schuberth who has yet to receive the helmet.

So I call up the dealership and apparently one of the "helpers" in the parts department sent to it Schuberth Distributing in Chicago, as opposed to the service/warranty people down in Aliso Viejo. So now they have it back and are sending it to Aliso Viejo tomorrow.

So I just said OK, and planned to wait patiently for the helmet to make its way back to the proper people and back to me. Now sitting here thinking about it it seems a mistake but at the same time I'm now without my $800 helmet (C3 + SRC) because somebody sent it to the wrong place... and this is all because of a warranty issue which was obviously no fault of mine. Seems to me I'm due some kind of consideration, but what do you think?

Honest mistake and I should let it go, or should I escalate the situation? What would you do?

Dealer caused?
If you dont have a relationship with the dealer which mis-shipped it, Im pretty sure youre gonna have to grin and bear it. If you do have a relationship with them (exclusove of this helmet debacle) I would tactfully bring this up to the owner since youre essentially HIS customer as welll as Schuberth's and he'll likely want to make some peace.

Otherwise, Schuberth isn't really in the mix on this IMO.

Good luck regardless.

To answer your question directly, No. Do you have a spare helmet you can use while you wait? I'd build a bridge and get over it. Sorry.

Making a premature complaint isn't what i'd do. Just Let it simmer and if someone/something was to mess you up again (I hope not) you have more to say.

Stating 2 issues in one go has more impact than stating 1 issue, 2 seperate times.

Yeah, mistakes happen. It's too bad this one happened to you. I'd be sad without my Schuberth. It seems like an honest mistake though. I'd personally give it another week. It usually takes about three weeks to get warranty work back from Schuberth anyway. What I would do though, is call and suggest they send the helmet back to you overnight when it's ready to ship. I wouldn't settle for ground, let the dealer foot the overnight charge.

On another note, and not to cause more concern, but I'm not sure I would have sent my SRC insert back with the helmet. I probably would have removed the collar. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I'd worry about the -what if...what if they just swapped out the helmet and forgot to transfer the SRC to the new helmet?

I hope you get your trusty helmet (and insert) back soon.

I take it you have never made a honest mistake.

Don't make a big deal of it. They are making it right. Yes, $800 is alot. This is probably why you are so upset. Let them make it right. Make sure the helmet is in a good condition. It has traveled around. If the helmet it OK, count your blessings. It could be worse.

Gordy - Yes of course Schuberth has no fault here, something actually tells me that they will still make this right going off what I've known of their typical level of service.

Scootchef - I personally spoke to the tech that is waiting for my helmet, met him in person yesterday when I stopped by their office to see if they had finished the helmet yet which is when I discovered this whole thing. He is promising it will be turned around by the end of this week. The SRC thing, well hopefully that comes back if not somebody will be replacing it namely the company responsible for losing it.

Old as dirt - I have made honest mistakes in both my personal and business life. In my personal life a mistake usually garners no attention, in my business I'm compelled to make up for the inconvenience lest I suffer the consequences.

My thoughts - I think Schuberth (who knows of this whole story) will make this right of their own volition. The BMW dealership made an honest mistake and I accept that, I don't like that it inconvenienced me though.

I don't plan on complaining about this, or making mention of it at all. I really just wanted to see the general consensus... thanks all.

edit: Oh and dealership offered up a loaner helmet in case I was without one, I declined since I have two other helmets and using a "community" helmet is not really my thing.
