I was in Richmond Va. a few days ago & stopped in to check out a big scooter dealer carrying Vespa, Piaggio etc. The had 2 used MP3s on the floor, and one of them had been equipped with hand guards, like you'd see on an off road motorcycle. They had been carefully trimmed to fit the MP3 bars & switches. They looked factory. I could see no mfg identification on them. Has anyone on the forum added this mod to their scoot? If so, what brand & where did you buy the guards?
Thanks,
Motresyklman

I equipped my 500 with Barkbusters Storm S7 hand guards. They are very easy to install: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/barkbusters-storm-s7-handguards-with-single-sided-mounting-kit-for-6mm-or-8mm-threaded-bar-end-inserts.

Also, I can't remember the brand, but a number of folks have installed another brand that has built in turn signals or additional lighting. Try using the search function to find threads about hand guards.

I used Koplin with mirrors and had a handlebar bracket made by a local FAB shop that worked out perfectly.

You can see them on my scoot as it was returning home, thanks to George and Sandi.

here is the Powermadd brackets that don't work on the mp3 handle bars and the ones I had made that do.

these worked perfectly.

Hand Guards for 2008 MP3 500 Plug and Play Type
Does anyone in the group have the model # for the Acerbis "
Dual Road" that will fit without any mods...I'm good for crap with my hands so modding is out for me.There is like 4 models of the dual road but none of the charts show a MP3 500. Acerbis USA factory says the 2140450001 will work...does anyone know for sure?

Also any other Brands from USA that will fit?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Can't help with the Acerbis hand guard information but my original post up near the top has links for the Barkbusters Storm S7. These hand guards are a very easy install and cheaply priced.

Here's a couple threads on hand guards from the wayback machine. I still use the Powermadd because if have the heavy bar ends / Throttlemeister. They actually work quite well, and the open weave for summer well appreciated. I only take them off when I install the Bagster muffs for winter.

I do think the bored-out aluminum mounts are getting fatigued though, so I may have to construct something new to replace them next season.

Powermadd Hand Guards?

The European catalogue for the Dual Road grips lists the Gilera Fuoco (08 - 10) but the part numbers are completely different to the US part numbers ! However, the part number for the Fuoco is the same as that for the Ducati Multistrada, and that has the same part number in the US catalog that you list above (2140450001). So if my powers of deduction are correct, you should be good to go

According to the European catalogue, the Flash Scooter handguards (on the page before the Dual Road in the US catalogue) will also fit the Fuoco

Hi!

Thank you so much for the suggestion of buying Acerbis Dual road. I couldn't even find a model of handguard for the MP3 through Google but thanks to the post and pictures I managed to find something that did fit my scooter perfect. I been called the retailer for MP3 in Sweden but they couldn't provide me with any information about handguards. So thank you nine years later! 🙂
