I am converting my Rally system to 12v. At first I was going to simply take the battery out of the loop. Now I am wondering if I should keep a 12v battery in the loop to smooth out the lights.

any opinions on this option?

It seems to me that they must have kept a battery in these things for a reason over the years... am I correct or are these set-ups just better without the battery.

any input appreciated.

Got what right?
Battery in?
Battery out?

I did a 12v conversion.
New harness from Beedspeed, new rear brake switch & new light switch.
No battery - not needed.

What sort of Rally engine you got?
Ducati?
Femsa?

There may be other mods required if its a Femsa engine and you want to fit a P range flywheel & stator.

Whatever I said, was right, I guess. Clown emoticon

Anyway. I have the Femsa Rally 200 1974 stock.
I have never had any problems with ignition.
going to 12 v for the lure of brighter lights.
Maybe I should just buy a new 6V regulator and new battery-I have tried that in the past... never that impressed. Constantly trickle-charging is annoying.

Would tend to lose charge over time, but mainly the 12 v halogens are brighter, with options such as additional lighting, louder horns etc. seems like a good conversion for all those reasons.

I like stock vespa appearance, but when it comes to bike's function, upgrades don't diminish.

I suppose the value of a P-200E stator would be some increased amperage (watts) available? or what ?

cheers

I meant you were right they kept batteries for a reason. to level out the lights brightness. and yes you could go with or without if you want.
