Not one. Not ten. Not 100. Five. This is not an accidental number -- it's not too hard to name your favorite movie, and it's not too hard to fill out a list of ten movies you feel strongly about. It turns out, though, that it's fairly difficult to pick just your top five. You will certainly have to cut some that you love, and carefully consider what makes the cut.

Plus, John Cusack rules.

Okay, so I suppose I should go first:

1. Joe vs. The Volcano
2. Blade Runner
3. Shawshank Redemption
4. Memento
5. Fifth Element

EDIT: Revised because Trepp reminded me of a movie that certainly belongs in my top 5.

(I wanted to put High Fidelity on the list, but it didn't make the cut).

If you want to group all movies together and not specify a theme or genre then I have to pick the movies based upon how many times I have watched them and my top five are as follows:

1 Monty Python's The Life of Brian

2 Monty Python's The Holy Grail

3 Angel Heart

4 Pulp Fiction

5 Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

In no particular order:

Shawshank Redmption
Saving Private Ryan
Casablanca
It's a mad, mad, mad world
The Russians Are Coming

Ask me next week and I may come up with a slightly different five. But if it was 2:00am, and I was dead tired and about to turn off the TV and head off to bed... if any one of the above came on, I'd watch it to the end.

Thats a tough call, I rate movies by how long I think about them after seeing them. The longer they stay in my mind, the better they are and there are way more then 5. Most recently, I would say the new Star Trek movie qualifies. Saving Private Ryan, Excaliber, Forest Gump, and Fried Green Tomatoes are certainly amongst many that are, but well into the rum, I can't remember the titles.

I took this as a challenge to name my five favorite movies that I could think of in one minute. Ask me tomorrow and you might get something else entirely.

Dr. Strangelove
Withnail and I
Wings of Desire
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Annie Hall

Bollocks! You did say only 5 remember and Memento, Saving Private Ryan, Shawshank redemption, Breakfast club and To live and die in LA are all very worthy of a top ten but I forgot about Withnail and I as well as The Godfather part 1 and 2! So my revised list is:

1 Monty Python's The Life of Brian

2 Godfather Part 2

3 Angel Heart

4 Pulp Fiction

5 Withnail and I

Picking five is much harder than picking ten. My first two are rock solid although I consider Star Wars episodes IV, V and VI to be one trillogy. After that it gets fuzzy. These are all movies that had a powerful effect on my life. I considered including a rather lengthy list of also-rans but no. The number is five and five it shall be, though I may revise.

Casablanca
Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope
Breaking Away
Dr Strangelove
Pulp Fiction

True Romance
Breakfast Club
Pulp Fiction
Om Shanti Om (Bollywood)
Requiem for a Dream

Runner's up:

16 candles
The Shining
Natural Born Killers
A Clockwork Orange

I could keep going! It's too hard to pick just 5!

1. Angel Heart. Deniro as the Devil is genius. I am a big hands person and the scenes with his hands are just amazing. Read the book and it talked about his hands also, something to the effect "the hands of emperors and assassins. Languid, yet lethal, the cruel, tapered fingers perfect instruments of evil."

2. Jacobs Ladder. This movie is just amazing. I can watch it over and over. And the ending blew my mind in the movie theater.

3. Sin City. Loved every single character. Still mad that they are taking so long to make the second part that the original actors are dying off.

4. Silence of the Lambs. Still in awe of Anthony Hopkins performance.

5. Pans Labyrinth. Some of the best monsters to date. And if you are a history fan, you will understand more of the hidden undertones of the story. Great movie.

So many choices so little time so here is a quick short list:

1: Blazing Saddles (or anything by Mel Brooks would fit)
2. The Dirty Dozen
3. Saving Private Ryan (love the first 15 minutes/ Omaha Beach scene)
4. Kelly's Heroes (Wonderful cast)
5. Little Nicky (one of the most hilarious by Adam Sandler and I love Mr. Beefy!)

So many others are worth mentioning but I won't.
