...the original drive belt lasts approximately 10,179 miles before it decides to shred inside the case. I've got a lovely mess to clean up now. FML.

That's a bummer Thanks for the info though.

I've never seen a LX150 in person. What is that attached to the air inlet to the transmission?

No, it looks like some kind of hose attached to the inlet. I was wondering how the transmission housing gets fresh air to help cool the belt, etc. My GT200 has a open vent with no hose attached. I have heard that heat kills belts quickly. Still 10,000 miles is more than the recommended replacement interval isn't it?

Ah...maybe something to do with the LX being air cooled. I have been meaning to change my belt, but there has been a few roadblocks the last couple thousand miles. I finally got a belt in the mail earlier this week, but I don't have it with me right now.

It looks like you are in for some fun. I bet you will have quite a time getting all the remnants of the belt out of the transmission housing. I bet that hose goes to an inlet scoop somewhere, I just haven't seen a LX150 up close to see. Here is the air scoop on the GT200 so you'll know what I'm talking about.

That's good to know cause I just hit 7500 and am the biggest procrastinator on doing maintence that needs to be performed on it.

That's definitely what happens to belts. Personally, I recommend replacing them sooner, because getting stranded sucks.

Having the rear wheel lock up at speed (which happens with some regularity when the belt snaps) sucks even more.

The tube you see on the LX transmission cover is to cool the transmission, not the engine. The GT/GTS uses a different configuration (and is somewhat simpler) but both serve the same purpose.

Early GT200 models also used a snorkel, but aimed upward instead of forward.

My scoot just got our of a 6,000 mile service (Service Contract), and the mechanic said the belt was starting to wear.
They decided to change it, and gave me the old one for my garage.
For the life of me,,,,nothing looks wrong with the old one. But,,,after seeing 2 posts TODAY about belts that came apart while riding...I feel better about having a new one. Wha? emoticon
