I hope this question makes sense. When stopped and perhaps waiting for the light to change, etc. I notice that if I am holding in my rear brake the engine seems to rev at a higher level than when I hold in the front brake. Is this just my imagination or is there something to it? Thanks for any input.

It is an illusion. What happens is that when the rear brake is on, the pressure of brake fluid in the line makes a "solid" link between the engine and the body, bypassing the suspension and transmitting the engine vibrations to the body. So you are just feeling enguine vibrations which are normally shielded from you by the suspension.
