Just got down really cleaning the frame before grinding/blasting it and I must of won the Pakistan lottery. Hell I've seen worse rust on 10 year old cars and worse repairs to boot.

I went ahead and did a quick rustolum rust converter layer on the bare metal so it doesn't rust. I'm not quite ready for paint yet and want to have a plan before really blasting the paint off.

I don't know if it was the thick layer of sand over everything but it was preserved. I saw some more janky fun but deep down in all the inner sanctum crevices... looks good.

The headstock... I might just go ahead with the round one because I like it better, but I'll have to swap the bars, one has a crack in it. Holy crap how does one even get a crack in tubed steel. I guess I should actually strip it first and see if the whole thing was broke off. At least the squarish replacement I got had already been blasted and looks good to go.

I love the current movement of celebrating a bikes sordid history. Keep at it and don't get discouraged!

I'm using Paki as an abbreviation of Pakistan. Is there another way of abbreviating it? Sorry I didn't know it was a racist term. Did you know the word Eggplant in Italian is a racist way to describing a black man?

I'll forgive the unintentional use of "Paki". But the rest of your post -- with only a handful of posts to your name -- pretty much guarantees that you haven't really figured out the tone of this forum.

And with most ppl 'Paki' is a proper form or diminutive of 'Pakistani', much like 'Indo' or 'Brit' or 'Aussie'. Shorthand for the longer name, not derogatory per se.

Paki is along the lines of "Jap"......no bueno.

Indo is used by Indonesian surfers and was passed on to American surfers who use the term with respect. "I paddled out with the Indo boys yesterday..fuckin kicked my ass". And so on.

Brit is rarely used and I tend to just say the "British".

Aussi is another word that I learned from the Australian surfers here in the 80's. Again, "I paddled out with Aussi boys yesterday and they kicked my ass".

ANyway.........

BTW. Aussis surfers refer to us as Yanks or Yankees. Its all good in tha hood.

OK. Maybe best to avoid ALL diminutives then, unless you are up to date on these things or have a handbook. I am not and do not. My apologies to all of Pakistani heritage(and my Paki(stani) friends, both here & in Greece).

I've seen spammers originating out of China that have tried more times than that. But only rarely. It's kind of gratifying to waste the time of the spammers for a change, as each registration cycle requires several steps.

I've never heard Paki used in a derogatory fashion in the US but I was aware that it was not so nice in Britlandia. 2 out of my 3 roommates are from Pakistan. I'll ask them their take on it, but I think they care a lot more about the lack of understanding of their religion than being labeled as an derogatory term for an Pakistani immigrant.

Anyone watch the US-Costa Rica soccer match a couple nights ago? I watched it on Univision because I didn't have the feed in English (and I speak Spanish so no hay niguna problem para mi a verlo en Espanol) but I was surprised at how the Mexican announcers referred to JOse Torres repeatedly as "El Gringo Torres" every time he touched the ball. I got the feeling that they were saying it in a derogatory fashion because he is a Mexican-American who plays in the Mexican league but represents the US internationally. BTW, I'm sure you west coasters know but for everyone else "Gringo" is basically the N-bomb for Norte-Americanos.

here is one of the definitions of Gringo from the Urban dictionary. I am in san diego next to the border and don't really hear it much at all. although I haven't been to TJ for years cause of all the cartel crap.

With time it lost all derogatory status and was turned into the most common word to refer to any US citizen. it also represents behaviour and attitudes latinos consider to be "american".

It's pretty derogatory, that's why the Mexican announcers called the guy "El Gringo Torres" over and over and to reenforce the displeasure that a Mexican American would play for the US national team.

Ok, maybe it's closer to some of the derogatory terms used for Mexicans (or any immigrant from south of the border, which all get lumped in as Mexicans unfortunately) Still, I ain't calling my Mexican friends beaner or the like and I sure as hell ain't calling any Guatemalans Mexicans....being that Mexico stole half their country they're a little sensitive about that.

I never use the stuff tried it once or twice back in the day and never had much success with it. I learned there is no substitute for fixing it right. So I guess what I'm saying is Jbweld stinks
