for my car.

Seems I ride the scoot so much that my car battery is giving up on me. I have the car parked in front of my apartment and usually on use it on the odd weekday in order to avoid street cleaning. When my girlfriend wanted to borrow my car while hers was in the shop the battery problem became very apparent and the cause was neglect.

Might have to sell the damn thing.

I got rid of my car a few years ago when I got a local job and started taking the train to work. Same problem as you, since I only moved it during the week for street cleaning and only used it sparingly on the weekends. Keep in mind that to restore the battery's voltage, you need to drive it for more than a few miles. Alternators do not supply sufficient voltage at idle to replenish the battery and keep the electrical system running.

You can get a "Battery Tender" that will replenish your battery, but if you don't have a garage, you'll have to disconnect the battery every few weeks and bring it indoors to charge.

WARNING: Google around for potential risks of charging car batteries indoors.

Thank you for the advice DRW and the correction of the malaprop. Obviously whatever it is I need, I don't have.

The garage I have is more like a large shed and without an electrical outlet. Great size for a scooter and some tools but not much else. I'm just contemplating selling the car and possibly using public transportation if the weather gets too bad, which is a rarity in LA. But as the saying goes, when it rains here, everyone forgets how to drive, making bad to worse drivers a scary proposition for a scooter commute dependent on freeway travel.
