Hello. I haven't been here in a while since I sold my bike. Well, I just purchased another Piaggio MP3 500 in "like new" condition with only 800 miles on it.

Anyway, I'm trying to install a new case, and have run into the problem of trying to figure out how to connect the lights.

The case is the Givi B47 with the brake light kit.

I have everything connected within the box itself, but I have no idea where to run the wires coming from the box. The instructions are very vague.

Does anybody know where I am to run the wires from the box to the bike? Where on the bike do I run the wires?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I'm glad to be back!

I ran mine from the box to the MonoKey system to the wires on the right side behind the Tupperware. If you follow the brake light wires you'll see where to hook it into.

Alright. Cool. I'll go check that out now.

I'm assuming I'll just have to splice the wires into the existing wires?

Anyway, I'm going to go check this now.

Thanks for the response!

I just went and checked, and cannot seem to find any wires on the right side.

I have the Monokey system, and that is all hooked up. Now I am just trying to figure out where to run the wire coming from the monokey base.

Is there something under the seat I should be looking for? Or.. do I have to remove any of the panels from the bike? If so, what panel should I remove?

Thanks again.

Follow the wires from the brake lights. On the right back side you may have to unwrap the bundle of wires taped together to find the right ones.

I spent the last 3 hours looking at the bike, and I could not find anything that I could attach the Givi lights to.

I'm sure I'm missing it, and it's probably something very obvious.

Does anybody have a picture of what I need to connect the Givi brake lights to on the bike? If so, I would really, really appreciate it if you posted it. I'm at my wits end now trying to figure this out! lol Crying or Very sad emoticon

The Givi factory brake light kit comes with connector plate that is spring loaded. When you clip the trunk into the base plate the connection is made.
There are plastic knockouts in both the case and the mounting plate where the connectors go.

The kit comes with the required parts

http://www.giviusa.com/givi-products/case-accessories/brake-light-kits/e126-stoplight-kit-detail

If you want to create the same thing you need both of these.

Thanks Perry.

I have all of that already put together. The plate and all of the lighting within the box itself is put together.

But now I have the line coming out of the bottom that needs to be hooked up to the bike somehow.

Where on the bike do I hook this up?

See if this helps. http://reddogscooter.blogspot.com/2009/10/oct-29-2009-infernal-top-case-lights.html

Once you remove the side panel it's no big deal to locate the wires that feed the brake lights. At that point you need only remove enough insulation to solder the top box wires to or better yet use a couple of the new Posi-taps to connect. Either way works and if you've never used Posi-taps they're available at auto parts stores. Be careful though, they're addictive.

Thank you so much, Larry. You are a God-Send!

I'll follow those instructions on your blog today to get this working.

By the way... will the turning signals also work, or is this just for brake lights? I think I know the answer, but thought I would ask anyway!

Thanks again!

OK. I just completed putting the case together, and finally have it attached to the bike.

One thing I noticed, though, is that there are three wires running from the lights in the box, to the little relay inside the box. There is a RED, BLUE, and BLACK wire. I figure the black wire is the ground, but where do I hook this up?

Thanks again for the help. I really do appreciate it.

You should be able to measure voltage between the red wire that feeds the tail lights [with the lights turned on] and the chassis [the scooter's main metal frame.] The black ground wire can be connected to that chassis point using any wiring connector and a nut/bolt.

I'm guessing the relay is likely used as an isolation device to safeguard your system from drawing excessive current but I can't say for sure as my kit didn't have one; mine is for brake lights only, therefore it only requires two wires.

Here's what I think you need to do, get in touch with whoever sold you the light kit and ask them to help you sort it out. They should have provided an adequate wiring diagram along with instructions so maybe you're missing something.

The B47 trunk uses the E126 kit

http://giviusa.com/givi-products/case-accessories/brake-light-kits/e126-stoplight-kit-detail

The picture does not show a relay box or additional wire. Please provide pictures of the box and wiring so we can help.

Here's a pic I just took of the inside of the Givi B47 top case:

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

You can see the left line coming from the left light, and the right line coming from the right light.

I have the red and blue hooked up. But you can see the black wires hanging there, and I have no idea where to connect them. There is no metal screw or any other metal "ground" to connect them to.

So, I'm just at a loss as to where to connect them.

I still haven't figured out the connection to the MP3 500 yet, but I'll get around to that in a few days.

I've read each page of the instructions, and filled each step. The part about wiring only shows the blue and red wire... No black wire. If the instructions showed it, it would make life a lot easier! lol

I am not looking for the remote opener... Maybe some day, but right now I'm just trying to figure out how the wiring hooks up.

Is there anybody here who installed the Givi B47 Case with the brake light kit?

That is the exact kit that I purchased, and found a great deal at this website:

http://www.pca-one.com/productDetail.asp?productID=7723&RetURL=search&search=keyword&bikeType=&bikeMake=&bikeModel=&bikeYear=

What I received, though, is a bit different than what's in the picture. Instead of the small rectangle lights, the lights were more like an "L" shape, the same shape as the silver reflector that must be removed before replacing it with this.

This is what I received:

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Everything fit perfectly on the box, and snapped right in place. The wires coming from the lights themselves has THREE wires.. Black, Blue, and Red. But there are only two wires going from the plate to the bike... Black and Blue.

Myy question is about the wiring itself... specifically the black wires.

Try connecting 12 volts to the black and blue wires to see what you get. It seems Givi has made a change to this kit and is supplying different LEDs with it. If you cannot get an answer from Givi technical support some trial and error testing will need to done. Realize the LEDs have the resistors in them, they are diodes so you can't really hurt them.

Frankly I'd have to question your comment about getting "such a great deal" if they leave you to your own devices trying to figure out how to install the kit. Just my thinking, OK?

So at the risk of repeating myself:

(1) I believe you'll find the back wires are for ground or - 12 volts. You might consider this as a test to determine which wire is for what: Connect the blue wire[s] directly to the battery's positive terminal [+] and touch the black wire[s] to the battery's negative terminal [-]. The lights should come on.

(2) This is the repeat part: Call the people who sold you the kit and ask them to help. If they can't or won't then tell them you're going to send the damn thing back and do so. Your credit card company will stand behind you if they fail to provide support.

Then consider Admore Lighting as a source for a kit; they're super good about providing tech support and they've even called me at home on a Saturday. It's not often you get that kind of support. Here's a link to their site, just find your top box and you should see the kit you need.

http://www.admorelighting.com/index.php?page=products/index.php

You're having way too much trouble with this project and deserve decent support from the mfg.

Just my 2 cts.

At least for the car radios I've worked on, they use black for ground, red for hot and blue for remote (basically, ignition on relay).

So, if just connecting single wires doesn't do anything, you could try with +12v on both blue and red, -12v on black and see if that works...

Too bad but perhaps a call to Admore might elicit a spark of interest? Dave is the sort who likes to stay abreast of new products and he may well have something in the works. If not and it were I fighting with this installationn I'd propose they develop one post haste and I'd be their guinea pig [at a greatly reduced cost, eh?]

In any event it doesn't sound like the OP has called the seller for help which makes me wonder why, or did I just miss something?

I came here, larry, because I could not get any answers from the online place I bought it from, or from other places I tried calling.

The only reason I came here is because I thought this was a forum where people discuss stuff like this. I figured somebody here might just have purchased this Givi B47 box, and could help me out. It seems, though, I may have been wrong, and that's fine.

I'll keep looking. Thanks.

On line suppliers just move boxes. Givi customer service is less than perfect. It's just we don't see that box much if at all yet. That coupled with a change in the brakelight kit make this a PITA. But hell we're trying!

Oh.. OK. I didn't realize this was a new box they just put on the market. Now it makes sense that there isn't much information about it.
