I didn't know that, and its nice to know they imported people other than former Nazis for top jobs.

I was twelve years old and still surprised to be on vacation at Ocean City in Maryland. My dad was an electrical engineer for NASA and usually at the Cape whenever there was a "shot" as he and his fellow engineers called it. If I remember correctly, he did go down to the Cape for the liftoff and then returned for our week long trip to the beach. He gathered us all up (five kids) and we joined a lobby full of other guests to watch on the only color TV at this little hotel.

My dad was in "T&E" or testing and evaluation at Goddard in Greenbelt, MD just outside of DC. It was an exciting time and a very cool thing to have a "Rocket Scientist" as a dad. I was always the coolest kid in the class when I got special treatment for our class when we did a field trip to the Space Center there.

I was in my mommas belly which was in front of the tv watching the landing.

If I recall correctly, the Brian Adams "summer of 69" is referring to a certain sexual position and not the year. I remember reading that somewhere....

Home in Brazil. I don't remember if we were receving the broadcasting live or not. I remember it was a black and white TV. Were there color TVs then in the developed world? It was Winter in the Southern hemisphere too.
Don't feel bad Max... My dad never got rid of anything until it could no longer be fixed. We had a black and white Magnavox (with an Early American style maple cabinet LOL). And I was 7 1/2 years old. I thought it was absolutely amazing.

BTW, we didn't get a colored television (a Sony Trinitron) until late 1975... So I was 13 when I finally saw the Wizard of Oz in color.
I remember our TV in the kitchen and the radio too took a while to warm up before we were able to see the image or hear anything. Today you press the on button and on it goes! The radio had this green button that lit up gradually like an eye's pupil. It was mesmerizing to watch. The only reason I remember that is because just recently I was going over very old photos and being all nostalgic about them with some friends. Off the topic for me I know I am over my mid-life crisis when I allow myself that nostalgia and admit to it in public. How time has passed...

Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end
Ah yes, the summer of '69.... That was a most interesting time for me, Viet Nam was raging, my race car had puked its guts out, my fledgling business was just over a year old and had yet to earn minimum wage level for me and my GF of the time informed me the stork person was perched on my chimney and looking right at me. Them were the days..

That is what Adams himself said during an interview on The Early Show in 2008.

Not long born, probably just out of hospital
I was kept in for 2 months as I was only 2 and a half pounds when born. Not very well.
Look at me now!!!

I was 2 days old! My mom is a Wedgwood collector and got this to commemorate both my birth and the landing.
