Hi, All:
Would any of you kind folks have a picture or diagram of the mounting base
for a small Piaggio top box? I acquired a brand new one without a mount, and am building one to fit the rear rack on my GTV 300. Can anyone help me with this?

Hi, Lowell,

Which case? The Vespa 36L, the "S"?
Please post a pic of the case.

Piaggio Top Case
Here are pictures of the small Piaggio top case #PI57755200F2. I was able to get it on my dealer's bargin table, less the mounting plate, & instructions.
I am in the process of fabricating a mounting system for it to mount it on the rear rack of my GTV300. I thought it might be nice to use when it is raining. Plus it looked like a good project. I intend to paint it portiofino green
& match the leather textured part with a color that matches the knee pads.

Lowell,

Congrats on a bargain.
Okay here is what I recommend:

1 - Using two hose clamps (with rubber liners / small hose sections to protect the chrome), clamp the rear rack closed. Other owners have merely reversed the spring, so that is an option, too.
2 - Place top box on rack. From the bottom, mark positions for four holes, two front and two rear, on the underside of the top box to clear the rack tubulars, and also mate with a steel plate. Make sure the plate, which will be on the underside of the rack is flush, or is bent (molded) to be flat flush.
3 - Drill four holes in the steel plate and top box. Use a rubber sheet trimmed to proper dimension to between the plate and rack to avoid scratching.
4 - Use flat head bolts, washers in the top box, passing down through the plate. Use washers, lock washers, and nylon nuts on the underside of the bolts.

NOTE: Bring top case as far forward as possible, while still "hooking" the top case "L" hook under the rack. This "hook" helps you install the rack in tension. Pillion passenger must be able to lean on the pad or front of the case. No wiggle must be tolerated.

Here is what I believe to be the OEM kit for your "S" box:

Of course, that is to fit an LX/LXV/S rack.
