Easy to check: with a voltmeter across the battery and engine running at about 3000 rpm the voltage should be no more than 13.7V. If the voltage regulator has bitten the dust it will read around 18V. I would not ride a lot with a bad voltage regulator as it will damage the battery! If not the regulator then I can help.
