Hi everyone,

Just a quick question.

So I got the px running and was wondering why the Kill Switch didn't work.

See attached.

Obviously it isn't going to work when you see the photo. haha

I am guessing that I could wire them into the ignition?

I have attached a photo of the wires entering the rear of the key ignition.

Does anyone know what wire colours I should splice them too.

Or is there a better way to do it?

EDIT: Would grounding the BLACK wire of the kill switch. Then splicing the GREEN wire going in to the rear of the ignition to the RED wire of the kill switch work?

REDIT: Tried the above method but that did not work.

Thanks in advance.

Chris
So there is where the kill switch currently leads.

I'm not getting any love experimenting with the Kill switch.

There is plenty more to do so i'll keep going with other bits.

Looking at the PX schematic, I don't see a kill switch so I can't be of much help there... but the green wire to the CDI does appear to get grounded out to shut off the engine.

So yes... your initial thoughts seem to be correct... I would check to see if the kill switch is working. Hook up an ohmmeter to both the black and red on the kill switch (make sure they aren't connected to anything else) and read the resistance on it... sometimes if the switch is dirty or carboned up it will not make contact. If you read anything over 1 ohm, or a constant open when the switch is closed (In the off position), then its probably faulty.

You could also try grounding the green wire (since you tried splicing it already, id assume you've cut into it somewhere?) That should shut down the motor. If that works... then I'd think something is wrong with the switch or the wiring to the switch.

Cheers for the reply.

I went on with dropping the engine out for a clean. Needed some serious elbow grease.

I will check if the kill switches functional tomorrow and get back to you.

Cheers

I have a 1992 electric start px200 which doesn't have a kill switch, never did, have to be one of the only motorcycles you can get in Australia that doesn't have one.

I had been thinking about the best & most stock looking way of adding one.

Hi Eric.

My px200 has a kill switch installed (installed used very loosely) on the left cluster next to the indicators.

Ill take a photo tommorow so you can see what it looks like.

The green from the kill switch should connect with the green here, and black is the earth.

Hi thanks for the info.

Just to clarify.

Should I splice it to that wire and put both into that connector piece.

I spliced it after that connector but that did not work.

Well thinking about it now. The bike did not spark when I connected the wires as previously written. But when I pull the spliced wire off it would spark as normal.
So it could be dodgy wiring on the switch.

Any thoughts?

Hey again.

Here are some photo's testing the kill switch.

Do those reading tell me that its working or faulty?

Have not as yet tested the kill switch in the suggested spot. I put the engine back in today and didn't get a chance to put the rear wheel back on and the airbox carbs and all that are waiting for a set of gaskets before I can put it all back together.

On mine that is where the start button is, no rocker switch, just a button, I tried using it to kill the engine, doesn't work, can only kill mine on the key.

I have a electric start on the right side underneath the right side cluster.

It took me about a week of thinking it was broken before pulling the clutch in and pressing the button. Haha

Yes, once done all 3 greens are connected together. This puts the 2 switches in parallel, so when either switch is operated, the green from the CDI gets shorted to earth.
Looking at your meter results, the switch looks OK. Just to confirm that it isn't breaking down, try it on a higher setting (2000) and make sure the meter still reads "1" in the off position.

Hi again.

I have had some progress.

But its backwards.

So when the kill switch is in the off position its sparks but when its in the on it doesn't.

Here is a photo of how I have wired it up. In a slap it all together and see if it works 'wired up' kinda way.

Any ideas?

When the switch is "on" (contacts closed) the power to the CDI is shorted, so this is the engine off position.

Hi there,

Okay so its all good now.

I thought I would just let people know that its all good. I was able to spin the switch around in the cluster. So now its like a light switch if I want to turn it on (run) I flick it down.

So the wiring worked as follows.

Kill Switch: Splice Red = To the green wire out of the rear of the ignition either before or after that plastic connector box thing.

Splice Black = to the black wire out of the rear of the ignition either before or after.

So that worked for me.

Case closed.
