While I was cleaning out some drawers I found a box that contained a small motorcycle tach I bought like 3 years ago and forgot about. I got a vision.

I installed some bar end mirrors on my GTS a few weeks ago and the holes for the mirrors were laying dormant under plugs which hid the holes. Within minutes I was at the hardware store buying stainless metric bolts and hardware to do the instal.

I have always wanted a tach on my 300. Its not really needed but I thought it would look cool, so that's all that really matters. I think the finished product looks about as factory as can be. Rock solid mount. I even used the rubber that came with the mirrors to mask the hole. Running the positive and negative wires for the lights was real easy, getting the lead wire from the tach to the spark plug wire was a major pain in the ass. Works good but the needle is sometimes a little bouncy at WOT. The dash lights are a different color hue than the tach. I may have to get some new led or "white" light bulbs for the dash so they match better. Any suggestions?

What do you guys think?

It works with the windshield installed too. About 1/2 inch of clearance.

But Glasseye, doesn't the 250 already display RPM?

Not well enough to tune the variator properly.

A good tach is the zeroth performance mod.

You really need something accurate to tune your variator, something that can tell 8100RPM from 8350RPM.

The stock gauge is nowhere close to that.

The little Trail Tach is very good, but no light...and they do not last long.

My last worked for one year then the battery gave up, and it is not replaceable.

That little analog gauge is nice.

I think it looks just dandy with different color lights. Think of a room with all four walls the same color. Now paint one wall a different color. See? Unless you like bland.

I bought it from a scooter-shop in Taiwan 3 years ago, I don't have a name. Sorry I can't help out with that one.

Looks good, you could make it look cleaner by replacing the hex bolt with an allen head bolt

It would be harder or next to impossible to tighten down the way I have it mounted as there isn't enough clearance from the bottom of the tach to the bolt. With this setup I can use a open end wrench to tighten from the side.

That looks great. Nice and clean install.

I've been thinking about the unit glasseye pictured, but this analogue one has such a great aesthetic value as well as functional purpose.

I think they are bulbs that pop out but I'm not sure. I am not looking forward to removing the headset again. I'm sure someone here can provide a definitive answer.

Mount the bracket to the handles bars, then mount the gauge to the bracket

The handlebars on a Vespa are completely shrouded by a plastic cover. To get near the bars you would have to cut through the plastic headset. There is no exposed section of handlebar.

Guess I wasn't clear.
Remove tach as it is mounted now, take bracket off tach, mount bracket just as it was with a allen bolt instead of hex bolt, then mount tach to bracket
