Last week I finally rolled over the 10,000 mile mark on my Fly - I still consider myself a beginning rider. Took about 2.5 years to get there and I've loved nearly every mile (a few rainy and cold rides were not as enjoyable).
As a point of reflection, I do find riding to be one of my favorite things. It's cathartic at the end of a busy workday to commute home on the scooter. It's pure pleasure to ride for leisure whenever I can, particularly when joined by a few area scooterists. I've taken several "long" rides in excess of 200 miles and it's spurring an urge to do a lengthy trip soon.
I can honestly say my zeal to ride as often as possible is even greater than when I first won the scooter in a raffle in April 2011. My Fly has been an epiphany of sorts. It has been terrific fun riding, meeting folks and seeing places I would not have experienced otherwise. I actually find myself getting pissed at the meteorologists when they give bad weather reports - even more so when they get it wrong. Scooter ownership has definitely been an enriching experience and MV has played a large role in that with the vast knowledge and sense of community to be found here.
To date, I've had several mods done to the Fly...to the point my wife and kids just roll their eyes when I talk about what's next...
190 kit
Polini Upgear
GPR Exhaust
#38 idle jet
rear rack
Topcase
Windshield
140/70-12 rear tire
LED lighting in topcase, plate frame and legshield
It's been a terrific experience so far and I hope it lasts for many years to come.
Finally - a congrats to others as they eclipse significant mileage thresholds.
