I recently took delivery on a new 2014 Fly 150 3v ie. I'm delighted with the performance, handling and looks. I was a little disappointed to see the large numbers on the speedometer in kilometers per hour and the smaller in miles per hour. OK, I think, just have to get used to looking at the small numbers. Then I realize the odometer is clocking kilometers not miles. OK, I think, just have to get used to mentally multiplying by 0.62137 ... not a problem. Then I begin to wonder what issues I might have in selling and having to certify the mileage on the odometer. Hence question (arrived at by taking the long way around). In a resale am I legally responsible for having an odometer that reads in miles per hour?

My selling dealer says that the odometer can be electronically reprogrammed to clock in miles. Sounds logical to me. I'm inclined to leave well enough alone and use my scooter as an exercise to finally think in metric. Anyone had a similar experience?

You can switch the odo to miles quite easily, just as I did on my BV 350. All it takes is pushing the mode button in a special sequence. Read the manual.
Thanks, JimC, what happens when I assume, and all that
Since the speedometer is 'optimistic', you can get a decent idea of your actual speed by multiplying the KM markings by 6/10; i.e., 50kph is 30 mph.

Thanks, but I covered the manual and there is no reference to the above procedure.

I'm under the impression the speedo on the Fly 150 3V is a mechanical one in the speedo driven by a mechanical cable - if so there's no sensible way of changing from km to miles.

I would go crazy if I had to mount an abacus to my handlebars.

The math also works to drive 50Km and look at the speedometer and see the corresponding miles

100kph = 62mph

100 kilometers = 62 miles

Close enough for government work!
