Noticed:

NOTE: Three wheeled motorcycles or a motorcycle with a side car require only a Class C driver license. California Vehicle Code (CVC) §12804.9
Guess that an MP3 wouldn't require a motorcycle license in California but I'd sure want confirmation and a printout of the code before riding a California registered MP3 on a California car driver's license.

Unfortunately true. The MP3 slips through a loophole in the California vehicle code -- the same one that saved Arnold The Governator from a ticket when he was pulled over driving a sidecar hack without his M1 endorsement.

I've never ridden an MP3, but have heard that experienced two wheeled riders have gone down on them. Do you think CA should require an M1 endorsement to operate the MP3?

think that was a typo there. Arnold didn't have an M1 or M2 or any M...

He had a C license and in California that allows you to operate a car and three wheeled motorcycles. In fact you MUST have a C license to operate a sidecar (or MP3) and if you ONLY had an M1 you would be in violation of the law.

This is not how it should be, but how it is.

Yes, I do. It rides like a motorcycle. It leans like a motorcycle. It is, in fact, a motorcycle according to the California Vehicle Code. The exemption that it falls into was meant for fixed-wheel (non-leaning) vehicles.
