Hello Modern Vespa,

This is my first post as a member.
I love my MP3 500(Black).

I'm interested in changing the air filter to Malossi's Double Layer.
http://www.scooterwest.com/items/?_pageCCS=t#page=/item_details/Malossi-Double-Sponge-Air-Filter-MP3-400-500-and-BV-200-250-300-500/8983

From my research, their instruction informs to oil "if riding on a dirt road" which I don't think I'll be in NYC. So my question is what would be best if the rider is riding the regular asphalt.

Also someone in the forum mentioned that the Vespa's tech on youtube video "Vespa Tech Workshop" informed that there is no longer a need to oil the air filters. I couldn't find that portion since the video was few hours long.

I would like to not oil the filters if it will give more MPG and health for the engine, but I'm a bit sensitive in damaging it in the long run.

Yes, MP3's manual says apply half and half of the oil and gas.

Will you please share your experience?

I'm planning on taking a 500miles x2 trip from NYC to Toronto and want to make sure my bike is in good shape.
I don't think I'll be replacing anything unless I can test it out and be sure with it but want to treat my baby as best as possible.

Thank you very much in advance!

p.s.
The original air filter is still in the bike and it's a bit too dirty and not that sticky with the air filter oil. I'm really interested if Malossi Double Layer feature can bypass with applying the oil on it. I tried to contact the maker but their website wasn't user friendly to contact them : (

All foam air filters require oiling... the pores are simply too big, to capture the small dust that otherwise would pass throough, but instead get's trapped by the oil.

I just wrap a couple of pieces of bacon around my exhaust pipe right in front of the muffler. Gives everyone behind me the munches.

Not that I'm aware of. MC street foam air filters don't need oiling since they are thicker foam. But I do oil my foam MP3 filters knowing if I ever get in dusty/sandy conditions my motor will be better protected. I use UNI foam oil made for dirt bike filters. It's very tacky and you don't need much. Just put a little on your foam and need, squeeze it to spread the oil around. 1 bottle lasts a LONG time.
