add a cup of oil to the tank? What about all those stock stella's with crank failures? the worst thing about information is passing on bad information. yuck.

I hear what you're saying.

But what about his point of a big bore kit on an autolube engine?
Will the engine be subject to insufficient oil when using the autolube?

Hello

He is talking about adding a cap full of oil to presumably a full tank of petrol, why do these crank failures not take place on kitted vespa 125/150 or do they and they are unreported.

Or - does a 150 autolube motor deliver less oil per revolution than a 200?

You raise a good point Neb, & I have no idea of the answer. Logic tells me that with premix, a 200 WILL get more oil per revolution because it's getting MORE fuel/oil than a 150 every spin.

I'm confused Grump, your kitted vespa 125/150 wouldn't normally be running a Stella crank....

why isn't my crank failing on my supertuned, GickSpeed 166, Vortex24, 226 pipe, HRS crank, oil injected P125? Why are my CHT and EGT temperature values within an acceptable range while pulling 90-100 Kmh?

i must have this all wrong. LOL. i better start adding snake oil to the tank. it's going to blow up if i don't.

So how can a tuned engine run with the same oil as a stock engine then?
I'm not questioning you Gickspeed.
I'm just curious.

I've never owned a scooter with autolube.
Is the autolube for a p125(or 150) the same unit as the autolube on a p200?
If so, then you would not need to change the mix because it automatically
does it for you. If not, than adding a little oil won't hurt, and could help.

I had a scooter for a short time with an LML(pre mix) with a Malossi top
end, that had crank, and bearing failure.

the cogs are different. the p125/150 use the same cogs, but differ from the p200.

Hello

The original poster indicated that stella cranks are fine and only fail when kitted and do not have additional oil in the tank.
My observation was that vespa cranks do not seem to fail when kitted, which would imply that the vespa crank is more robust to start with and the problem may lie with the stella crank and not the oil pump.

Or did I get it wrong to start with.

I find scootnet a bit weird lately.

I am not a tuner but I have done my share of crank installs/bearing seal replacment,
and it is my opinion that failures first start with inferior parts and sloppy install.

I have never owned a bike that requierd more than 2% mix stock.

My last two lambrettas were/are 2% bikes. The original 125 special with stock topend and new bearings got spanked and ran to the top of band all the time and never glitched. 2%

My riverside is fitted with a 187 Indian top end and I can't beat it up more than I do. That bike gets putted around for work, but when I'm on a rally or screwin around I take it to the top of the band for all its got.

I run 2% store bought oil and 91 gas.
