Hi all

I want to clean my air fliter, I've seen that you can use spray oil or petrol mixed with oil.

would this stuff be adequate?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Castrol-17276540-400ml-Foam-Filter/dp/B005D7C46I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375011064&sr=8-1&keywords=foam+air+filter+oil

Cheers

That would be fine if you don't go the petrol/oil route. Use sparingly!

How are you cleaning the filter? If using a zip-lock bag and petrol (the quickest and easiest) then using petrol and oil to oil it just seems like an easy next step.

Was just going to use the soapy warm water approach shown on the video on this site

Fair enough - just remember to allow plenty of drying time (hardly needed with the petrol approach).

Somewhat "kinder" disposal with soap.

Hi jimc, so basically to clean the filter you suggest filling a zip-lock bag with gasoline and soak the filter in it for n minutes? Just want to confirm this method. Thanks.

Just half a cup of gas is fine. Then squish it around inside the bag to clean. Pour out the gas (eco-friendly wise...), squeeze out any excess, put back in the bag with a small amount each of gas and oil. I use engine oil, never had a problem with that. Remove from bag, squeeze out excess, leave for a couple of minutes for the gas to evaporate. Re-fit.

The NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation says:

Gasoline is toxic and extremely flammable and should never be used as a cleaner.

Except, used outdoors, with care, it is a very good cleaner indeed.

Are there any concerns about gas with ethanol in a plastic bag? I washed mine with soap and water in the slop sink and oiled with gas in a metal pan.

I have had very good luck wiht this product. The secret is not to saturate the filter with it otherwise your scoot won't get enough air. Soak it in but be careful.

I know another plug for my best shoppe! But this product will make your air cleaner service last longer. I have been able to go 7k without that service. I hate all those screws in the air box. I usually have to remove the assembly and put it on my lap to unscrew all those screws and screw them again. Use a plastic bag to put the clean/new filter in and spray generously. You will not be disappointed.

I agree that gasoline works great for this purpose but I have a problem with disposing of the stuff after used as a cleaner. It is just too toxic.

I have used a citric base cleaner that I found at the local bicycle store. It is water based. Works great as a degreaser and much easier to dispose of without worry. Would hate to turn my place into a little toxic waste dump for some unsuspecting future owner or possibly my own family.

Just don't ask me what I use to do......
