i have a 1978 p200. everything was great until i tried getting her going this spring. I left the petrol tap on so as i kicked her over gas spurted out of the exhaust. I turned it off and took out the spark plug let everthing dry out .then tried to kick her over the kick start goes down but no compression or the flywheel spinning. the kick start lever springs straight back up. so me thinking it was the woodruff key so ordered one and a flywheel removal tool.
While i was ordering i got myself a new spring, new kickstart cog thingy that the spring holds in place and a new kickstart rachet. I thought if im splitting the engine i want it all done in one hit.So put it all in the teeth on the cog was worn alittle maybe 2mm the woodruff key was worn down by about 3mm to the new one. I didn't think this would of made that much difference. So nw gaskets new oil feeling proud of myself for a good job then turn the key and kick same bleedin thing the kickstart lever goes down but doesn't spin the flywheel!!!. What the hell!! So please can someone out there give me a clue of what i need to do to get her going again! The onlty thing is that im thinking is when i ordered the woodruff keys I got one bigger then the other. is the bigger one for the clutch side is so, I did it right. Any help would be grately appreciated. Cheers ! pAUL

Did you put a clutch back in the bike? Razz emoticon
Did you rebuild the clutch whike you were at it? Maybe it's all stuck and locked in disengage mode! ??

the larger key is for the clutch, smaller is for flywheel..

Yes i replaced my clutch last summer. i disengaged the cable from the clutch arm to ensure the clutch has nowt to do with it. or do you think even with the clutch arm not engaged the clutch could of siezed up? when i rebuilt it i soaked the plates for 2 days in oil and put racing dr springs in.

Was the little spring on the case that keeps kick-start cog engaged still there?

If you put in gear and kick does it spinn the rear wheel? This would show that it's spinning the gears and the problem in the cluch. If not, then the problem is at the kick-start assembly.

Hi fciron. Well as you can guess my first post here.
I'm having the same issue. bike was fine till last week. Well was starting fine. As I just got it I had to do it a nice once over. Took off the engine did a nice clean. Long story short. The O-ring seal on the couch cover was not sitting properly, hence the lick of oil, I did replace it with a new one making sure all components where in place on re assembly. Now yesterday I'm going to start it and the bflywheel doesn't barely move on kickstart and do not start the bike. This is an 1986 PX kick start only model. You mentioned the couch could be the cause as the kick start lever seems fine. Where do I go from here? Is it worth reassembling the clutch? Also may be the clutch cable too lose?
I really appreciate your advice!
Thank you!
S.
