A few months ago I posted a thread here looking for advice on the Square portable credit card reader for Android smartphones. I use it for by business as a barber. I was given good information and signed up. It works great except some people want a paper receipt. I have heard that there are small printers available that will plug into the phone. Does anybody know about this and/or where I can get one? Thanks.

There are several Bluetooth printers that will work with smart phones. That's the route I'd choose if an email receipt isn't good enough.

You're not talking about a whole lot of your customers, and it's probably not worth the expense to purchase a printer just for them. You can text them a receipt and send one to your email, then print it out from your shop computer, or log into your square account online and print them a receipt after you do the transaction on your phone. It's usually instantly available, and probably takes less time to print out than hooking up the printer to your phone those few times someone insists on a paper receipt.

Since they do get a Square email receipt, it seems to me you could just carry one of these for the few who want paper. Top of the form can be customized if you wish by custom order or with a cheap "return address" type sticker. No power supply needed. Ink is a pen. Available off the shelf from Staples, Costco, OfficeMax, Office Depot, etc.

You could hand write the Square transaction ID on the form.

Receipt Book, 50 for less than $4.00

I've always been able to send an email receipt. You'd be surprised how many people want a printed copy. I tried texting the shop computer but that took longer than the haircut. I've been writing them by hand ala Sharp.

from Square's web site:
Quote:
Note: Receipts must be printed on 80mm width receipt paper. Receipt printer integration is not supported on smartphones. You must connect a receipt and kitchen printer to your Square Register to print numbered customer stubs.

What Sharpcolorado said. Get some receipt books.
That's how I handle it.

Square now requires that a customer be asked if a paper receipt is preferred, and given one if requested.

In my case, my clients being used to my Square reader by now, very few request paper, so a printer is just not worth the investment.

I can see where a business that handles a large number of transactions would prefer one, though.

Not long ago, I actually made my own first purchase from a business that used Square. I opted for the text receipt, which I received right away and was able to save until everything had properly cleared. I think that with familiarity, more people will opting for the paperless receipts.
