So I'm coming back from work today and I'm going an indicated 90 mph the Vespa starts to sputter a little bit like its cutting off, but doesnt, it also shakes ever so slightly when it does this.

The engine never actually turns off and I'm still at WOT but I was just wondering if this is normal.

Is this happening to other ppl?

Got it, ty.

Im sure its possible to modify it to take that off but going past the rev limit would probably put you at risk of blowing out the engine?

Also, is it harmful to the engine by doing this? (constantly being at the rev limit)

mbelleville: its only 90mph indicated, its probably really going only 83 or so

The engine on your scoot is massively overbuilt. It can bounce off the rev limiter all day. I've been riding mine at WOT for 100,000 km+ and it hasn't been complaining.

Just keep doing the scheduled service on time (or a bit early, if possible), and keep a weather eye on oil level and tire pressure. Letting either of those get low even for a short time can ruin your day.

Yeah, I've noticed that the rev limit is only at like 9k where as the gauge goes all the way up to 12,000.

Generally speaking, you'll hit the rev limiter at about 82mph actual (GPS measured). The indicated speed is always way optimistic.

It may be in Boston, but in Southern California it is merely speed of traffic. "Crazy" is me doing an indicated 73 mph on the right lane with the trucks.
