I have the scooterwest 12v power outlet kit installed on my gts250. It's worked fine for charging my iphone, which I primarily use it for.

So I recently bought a new slime 12v digital tire inflator and I forgot check the amperage before plugging and I think I blew a fuse? Shortly after plugging in the inflator it stopped working. Noticed that I couldn't get my iphone charger to work anymore either. I think the tire inflator drew too much power (probably more than the 5amp noted on the kit).

So how do I fix this? Is there a fuse that I can replace on the scooterwest kit or something else? Or did I hose the kit entirely?

If you're going to use the outlet for a mini-compressor or for a battery tender you should re-wire it to be connected directly to the battery via suitable cable (1.5mm^2 or 16AWG) and a 15A fuse.

It's likely a blown fuse. The versions of that power adapter kit we sold a few years ago had an inline fuse. The red wire coming off the back had a visible fuse on it. The more recent versions do not have that inline fuse. You would have the check the fuse box in the glovebox to see if one of them is blown.

We rate that circuit for about 5 amps or 60 watts worth of draw.

Thanks for your reply!! I will check if the version I have has a fuse and also check my fuse box as well.

So I have the version that has an inline fuse to the red wire. Picked up a ATC 5 Amp fuse and it was working again.

If a person hooked this compressor directly to the GTSs battery with the alligator clips, would it blow a fuse like the OP experienced?

If one of the wires attached to the alligator clips has an inline fuse, that could blow if the compressor draws too much amperage. But you wouldn't be at risk for blowing any other fuses.

Most of these small 12V compressors draw at least 10A. That means they probably need to be on a 15A circuit as JimC suggested.

There is a fuse on the line with the alligator clips. If that blows, will the compressor still work? I don't know what size the current fuse is, but if I replace it should it be with a 15 amp one? Sorry for the questions, but I know nothing about electrical stuff

No.

That depends on the size of the current one...

...as if you don't know much about electrics, best keep things as they were designed.
