I guess the problem with that approach is... that rig? I'll never be able to set something like that up in the shared carport under my apartment building, and with one arm. I'm not sure I'm even allowed. And to find tubes of the perfect diameter and cut them to length?

Seems like the best bet if going down that road is to simply shell out for a new fork and test it. Which is really what I was hoping to avoid, but if that's my best option, then I guess that's my option.

Thanks for the input, though!

I mean that definitely looks ideal. I'd love to be able to test and repair like that.

But I just cannot build something like that in the carport - I'm in a rental apartment and I lack the power tools, a hand, and most significantly I'm 99% sure my landlord would kick my ass for turning the carport, shared with other tenants, into a machine shop. The 80 year old lady who parks right next to me would not be happy...

I would venture that looks like more than $250 worth of labor hours and supplies to build.

I think if the external view is not considered accurate enough to judge then a new fork may be the best test. Could probably could sell it for only a small loss if things don't check out, but god knows what I'd do with that jig...

A broom handle thru th front will give a rough indication of alignment, and you can use it to tidy an keep th neighbours happy

if you can try and have a look at the under side of the frame below the fork bearing towards the flat part of the floor boards like this [/img]
this is an image of a px 50 that has been in a crash at some time in its life notice the "large ripples" between the spot welds of the spine/floor shield
the frame had been "sprung" in the crash and left said "ripples" yet both front and rear wheels were in line and the line of the fork was vertical
it drove perfect
surprised me thats for sure !
i used a builders laser level to check the alignment of the fork

There's still hope for wee "Speedy"... A broom handle an hammer should fix it...
Or was that stretchy?

got a long metal pipe of almost identical diameter to the fork into the frame today with the help of a friend. It wasn't particularly illuminating... from the front it looks a bit off kilter, but that could just be how the whole bike is sitting relative to the ground. From the rear... looks straight enough, but with the engine wheel sagging to the right a bit and damage to the frame... I don't think it has added much to the picture that I got from measuring and marking the offsets.

Perhaps the only way to tell is to get a new fork on there and try a careful ride... see if it wants to go straight or not.

That's where the rod or whatever through the engine mount bolt holes will help... once that is level (set up some bricks with a spirit level) then you can check if the pipe through the steering tube is vertical. You could use a plumb bob attahed to the top end, stand back behind the scooter and sight it between the string and the pipe. Obviously you'd need the motor out for this exercise.

What diameter was the pipe you used?

Looks like it was posted twice without the engine on Scoot.net.

Still, not bad. You have a good engine. Looks like it's in decent shape.

Sad for p200s that the engine is worth as much as the bike if the condition isn't perfect. I'd imagine even more so now that Piaggio still makes the bikes but only in 125/150s...
