1959 VBA1T, NO Battery.

Now that I have the VBA running decently, I'm moving on to the Electrical stuff. The only thing electrical working other than ignition is the headlight. Most of the other wires have been cut off or disconnected.

I got a wiring loom for my model, but I'm having trouble finding a wiring diagram that matches it. Some of the wires are different colors, and there seems to be extra ones as well. I'm attempting figure out what's what and where they all go.

Since I don't really know where to start I'll start here: Handlebar switch. Can someone tell me what each of these controls does, so msybe I can determine which wires go where?

As far as I know everything is original except the tail light. The headlight has a main beam and a pilot. I think the speedo has a light too.

Here's a shot of the wiring for the headset.

I assume some of those go to the coil?

Also I think the green wires are for the brake light. (Not sure) there are two green wires that come off the harness closer to the front end.

And a green and black at the rear end. I've got continuity on the green front to back.

the photo that shows blue/blue, green, and black at junction box is generally Euro spec. 1 power wire stator. what stator are you running? in that photo, the blue is power, green, kill, and black is ground. however you have a HT Coil.

I lied. I just remembered the wiring has been altered in some way, because a regulator has been added. Not sure if this affects anything since I'm rewriting, but thought I should mention it.

What exactly do you want to do? It appears you have a single power wire out stator. Someone has changed your original Vba stator.

My suggestion:

1) continue to use the conversion harness. I've connected these to the tear drop switch, no problem.

Or

2) correct the stator back to Vba to allow a flipping easy connection at the junction box and no dice/splice through the new, vba harness.

I just want this thing to be reliable. That's why I was hoping rewiring would do the trick.

1)I'm guessing by "conversion harness" you mean the one that's currently in the bike. right? Unfortunately, it is toast. It has wires cut short and cut out of the harness, plus some pinched bare wires in the headset, and finally, chewed-through wires that were eaten by mice living in the frame. YAY!.

2) So you're saying if I find a VBA stator, I should be able to use the new harness I have now? Damn, I just placed a big SIP order too.

Thanks

I don't know if this helps, but if you're looking to go back to original, I have some pics of the VBA stator and junction box here. By bike has a battery, but according to the wiring diagrams, there's not much difference in the harness.

Don't know if this helps at this point, but here is the full harness and headlight connections you requested.

Thanks
i believe you have two solid options as said above.

i have loads of old VNA and VNB stators, can probably build you a correct stator if you want to go that route.

i will be back in the country next week if you want to ring me.

I guess I'm still confused. I thought finding a VBA compatible stator was the only option since my already installed wiring is so screwed up.

I may have a line on a replacement stator. I'll see how that pans out.

you can use the stator that is now in your bike now. you just need to buy a conversion harness. it is the same one that is in your bike now, just uncut. that was in the options that i gave you.

Who sells a conversion harness? All I see is 12v conversion harnesses; or is that what we're talking about?

Alright Mr Gick, I've got my new conversion harness in hand. I have a rough idea where some of this goes but it's still not exactly like the one that's in there now, so I could definitely use some guidance.

Definitely not sure what's what on the switch.

Also need to know the best way to route the wires through the headset to avoid pinching or interfering with the lock or cables.

Thanks

It only almost drove me mad, after four hours of trial and error(mostly error) to run the wiring harness.

It is in there. I pray it is the correct harness.

I think I've got it right. Just not sure about connecting the headset lighting and especially the switches.

I'm assuming something is missing from my Speedometer. A light fixture perhaps?

Been there, done that, got the t shirt. And now I'm about to do it again with the smallframe. I'm going to start out this time assuming that it will take me 6 hours to run the harness, so that anything less will be a gift!
