I've just splashed out on these beauties http://goo.gl/t3vVvq and hope to get them fitted for the winter. Has anyone bought similar grips, and found installation problems with these? I've already modded my GTS 300 with a power outlet, turn signal beeper and a feed for my tom tom sat nav, so is there any particular steps to look out for??

You might have to shave off the plastic ridges on the throttle and cut the raised lip on the end so you can slide the throttle grip on. Be careful with the glue, too much on the throttle side can squeeze out the end and run back into the throttle body and glue the whole thing together.

They work well but are a bit of a pain to fit. I've had a couple of pairs now fitted to a GTS. The controller is a bit pants. You'll need to wire them directly to the battery via an ignition on only relay.

If you have the option to send them back then I really like the Symtec ones

simply because there is no cutting to do and you can put them under your real grips so everything still looks factory. The toggle switch is reliable too, which the Oxford controllers haven't been. To fit you simply remove the original grips by using a long skewer or thin flat bladed screwdriver and some WD40, clean up the mess, stick on the heaters, then slide your grips back over the top using Renthal grip glue.

Good post Doug. Oxford always seem to be THE name that pops up for heated grips but from your voice of experience the Symtec ones look to have the edge. Interested to see how Graham (OP) gets on with the Oxford or if he switches to the Symtec. We were talking about cold weather riding last night at the pub - we both rode over to the east coast in March time this year to attend the Vespa Club of Britain AGM, and it was still so perishing cold at about 2 deg + windchill at 70+mph that we spent some time talking about better kits/set-ups for this sort of weather while thawing out! (my Tucano 'winter' gloves were no match for that ride ).

This years AGM is in Southend in December and it would be abject defeat to take the car to a Vespa event , so I'm considering either Tucano muffs or the Vespa OEM wind guards that pop up occasionally...

Probably not helpful, but I've had a set installed and my post shows where the switch was located on my MP3.

A new farkle and a question.
