Good news. Finally managed to sell the Bandit and today ordered a 300 GTS shiny black (super, not super sport) with smoked mini screen.
There is, however, a slight dilemma (this will only mean anything to UK riders). I can have it in two weeks on a 13 plate or in a month on a 63 plate. I'm not superstitious so a 13 plate would be OK, apparently the later plate might make a small difference to the resale value, should I ever have to sell it which I don't intend to. Chime in.
This is the first motorised vehicle I have ever owned from new. I have never had to run an engine in before. Any advice on the first 1000k would be appreciated.
Thanks.

There are differing opinions on this subject. See the wiki article:

FAQ: How should I break in my new scooter?

Oh and congratulations on your new scooter. Everyone knows that shiny black is the fastest color too.

And...

Congrats BUNNY. Pics when you get it please. Now you can hang around a bit more. Waiting is the hardest thing. I ordered mine from CA and it was horrible. Only took 5 days but i was worse than a kid on Christmas eve. The only thing i did different was change my oil at 300 miles. Lots of little steel bits in the filter. I know they get caught there but i'm anal. I tried to vary my speed and not ride it at 40 all the time but i don't know if that really helps or not. Seeing where your from i'd get a good lock and find a secure place to store it when not in use. Man they steal a lot of vespas over there. Good insurance too. Just have fun with it.

Did you get a good deal on it as local piaggio dealer near me in Essex has pre-reg for £3495 & new for £3695 at the moment

Thanks for the replies, all.
I think the take it easy / vary throttle / ¾ open only is probably the way to run in.
Oil change at 300 miles sounds like a good idea. I have a massive chain and lock, ground anchor in the garage (the Bandit was red and very nickable) and the bikes are stored in an alarmed locked garage.
My local dealer did it for £3999 otr. Not too bad considering the website says £4200 and it can be registered on a 13 plate or a 63 plate at no extra cost. I did order a smoked mini screen as well, that was £60.

If you can wait I would go for the 63 plate won't make much difference in price but will look better when you come to sell, good luck with the scooter, I went with the normal riding and occasional short quick burst while running in.

I had to look this up.

Why would a country, with a higher than normal superstitious population, produce 13 plates in the first place?

I've seen this kind of behavior before in Japan where they avoid the number 42. 4=shi & 2=ni. Shini means die. 4219 is the worst (going/traveling to die). And of course there's the dreaded 666, which a lot of people think it means the devil's number.

If people have issue with certain number combinations, then why produce them at all?

Congratulations on the new Vespa!

It is not the number 13 that we are worried about our registration now is done twice a year so the first one in march is the actual year so the reg would be
AA13ABC but the one in sept would be AA63ABC These are just examples, it was done to try to level out on used car prices as before we just had one registration number for each year. So if you bought on the first day of reg it cold be a year older than someone who bought on the last registration day of the year, hope this make sense, don't think there are that many who would be bothered by the 13 reg being unlucky.

Now that makes sense. Thanks!

The article I read from the English news website only focused on the superstition of it.

Bonus
I'd wait for the 63 plate.

It's only 4 weeks away.

Two weeks of riding in August would be worth quite a bit to me. In fact, being scooterless in August would leave me somewhat suicidal . (okay, I'm not a patient person)

I would wait for the 63.
I am to the understanding the Reg year is important in England.
