So, just got my 1962 Vespa up and running after 5 years in boxes. Engine runs great, but I had to pull the tank after I discovered a leak.

Not a huge deal. The thing is - I need that special tool and the professionals take off Sunday and Monday around here.

I'm by the Navy Yard, but willing to travel, if you have the magic tool.

Please help! Will reward with beers.

Thanks

Wow, are you around on Sunday? I would need to get a zipcar to get out to you, but I'd appreciate it. I'll bring a six of your favorite.

That's how it works! Props to both of you!

You should post on the NY scooter forum, I know plenty of people
in manhattan that probably have that tool.

In the future, it makes sense to buy your own tools. They are pretty damn cheap and come in handy.

Or you could easily make one for a couple of dollars.

Just a heads up - that's not the friendliest advice to give to a stranger. You assume I'm some greenhorn, but that's not the case.

I'm between living situations, and my welder is in storage far away and my tools are somewhat scattered. I'm subletting a room and I rebuilt this thing in the living space. If I had access to a vice I might try Ginch's suggestion. But to be honest, I can Tig like a mofo and I could split a wrench and build the frikkin thing in about 5 minutes if my living/shop situation was a little different.

The point was to see if somebody had one handy so I didn't have to run all over the place and waste another day on quirky Vespa design flaws.

It was not meant with malice or disrespect. Its just good to have your own set of tools so you don't have to run all over or delay your build because you don't have them.

You'll use them more than you think.
