A very similar concept as to what we are currently using. The new design will be a full floor board overlay with the cam mount area for the pegs. just like we did for the BV 350 folks. as shown in this thread BV 350 riders highway pegs(SOLD OUT)

I need to gather a list of folks who would be committed in purchasing them to consider if it will be worth talking to the fab shop and paying for the engineering to proceed.

If we gather enough names I will ask for a deposit after I get a ball park costs from the fab shop before giving the go ahead to make them.

I will need at least 15 folks to at least start.

Edit. Also need some input into what they should be called.

I'm wondering the durability, myself, as well as the ballpark-price, if such is available.

the durabliity should be better as they will have 3 points of fastening, Also with the extra rib of strength as the bracket comes off the floorboard itself to the peg mount area should also have less flex and no rubber bumper will be needed against the plastics.

So this would replace the whole floor, or in my case on the MP3/250 the Rubber Piece on each side that snaps down but this would screw down as if the floor was replaced with a Metal one similar to the MP3/500.

What do you think the price target will be?
Will it have a similar metal/chrome diamond appearance like the MP3/500 Metal Floor looks today?

Similar to this, but with the attach points on the sides for Foot Peg?

they will just like the BV ones for finish. or the same finish as the UFP's.
They will go straight on top of any existing floorboard, just like the UFP's do.

Pricing ????? I won't even talk to the Fab shop till I get 15 people interested. but you should be able to make a reasonable guess based on the BV 350 ones

Interesting concept. Based on your experience with the BV350, I'm guessing this is still just a design to have a place to put HIGHWAY pegs and not necessarily designed to support full load-bearing footpegs? Not that it's a deal-breaker, just curious what you hope to gain with the design over the...okay fine, I'll put it out there...now retired UFPs; does that third mounting point at the back of the bracket make the overall design THAT much more stable? Aren't you still just screwing the brackets into three speed nuts, or is there more to the design you're working on with the MP3?

I'll definitely watch this one with interest; sadly can't commit at this point as our UFPs are doing both our scoots just fine (and the wife would kill me for another bike-related expenditure right now), but if the entire design offers enough advantages to trade up, yeah, I'd be in for a set.

As for the moniker; how about MFFRPM...massive full floorboard replacement peg mounts...you can even have some fun with the "RPM" part (making the letters curl around in a partial spiral like a tach or speedo)...

Do you have a rough idea on price? Is it going to be fairly close to the price for the BVs?

I'm interested, but I'm not 100% committed...

Guess I should have read the whole thread instead of just reading the first post and then skimming...

So, even though it's the full length, it's not a floorboard replacement like the BV is?

Same, but my qualm is that I have a LT version with the right side footbrake, albeit the same basic design as all the MP3s in the US. If it could have a cut out for the brake, I would be seriously interested.

I'm quite possibly interested, especially if it adds more flexibility to positioning. But it will depend on the pricing.

If I like the design and what it does for my foot positions (and have the funds at the time)...150 maybe?

Definitely gonna have to spray those with nonskid coating though if I got them, those bare plates on the example you linked two are just begging for me to kill myself mounting the bike if it rains even a little Razz emoticon

I'm certainly interested - put me on the list.

OAD - are you thinking the same general idea as when we previously kicked this idea around - full front floorboards, redesigned "arm" similar to the BV - offering more options for the pegs?

I love my UFP brackets so much I wonder if I should just leave them be or try this new thing. Would the peg positions be similar to what I have now? Would this basically just add a larger footplate? If so, do we expect that it would be less prone to you-applied-too-much-weight-to-the-pegs damage?

You can't tell but I am actually quivering with excitement.

so your probably right in the ball park on pricing. I hope to come in less than that actually.

Surface coating would be up to the individual, because I don't want to deal with I want them in pink, and then I want silver, or I want gold anodize.
KISS is the way to go.

here is the nice thing You have the UFP's now and if you like what you see after I get the proto types in just chime in and add your name to the order.

I actually hoping the peg position be a little higher up on some of the settings so to eliminate some potential scraping some get now.

The diamond plate boards are aluminum and would not be strong enough for the bend to the peg. I think the anodized finish with flush recessed screws with a heavy duty grip tape (aka stair tread) overlay would work. Target price would be okay in the $175-200 range. I cannot see the price being close to the UFP's due to how much more material and cutting there is. But factor this in if you have a 250/400 you save having to convert to the 500 diamond plate floorboards. Though you would need to include the spacers .

I am actually looking at on top of the whole floor board area to include the little bit of plastic around the diamond plate /rubber matt areas. This way it will fill in nicely and not leave an gap edge to the inside.

I sure hope I can get the price well below your estimate. might have some more thoughts on that later this week if I can get to the shop.

So if you replace the whole floor board (or put a plate on top), can you then modify the back end with a riser and put a passenger foot peg on it? Or maybe drop a brace to the side that would hold a passenger foot peg?

Just seems like you need more of a challenge. A one piece that fits all - now that could be marketed as the mPeg! Nerd emoticon

Right, I wasn't saying you shoul do that part, just that it would have to be done.

It would be great if there was some grip-texture that could be done to the floorboard part of the metal by the fab shop somehow, but I know that means extra steps and therefore extra cost...but who knows, might be worth asking?

Any chance of a "lip" around the edge so that it still seats into the ridge around the edge without just laying the sheet over the whole thing? I know, I know, possible extra cost again, just looking at the aesthetic angle.

That idea about another spur of mount points off the back end for a passenger's pegs...now that would help sell it for sure.

Any chance of a "lip" around the edge so that it still seats into the ridge around the edge without just laying the sheet over the whole thing? I know, I know, possible extra cost again, just looking at the aesthetic angle.

That idea about another spur of mount points off the back end for a passenger's pegs...now that would help sell it for sure.
possible lip idea can be explored.

I did look at a texture process by the fab shop and they would have to cut individaul cross cuts in. just costs time. similar to knurling like on a ratchet extension.

Cool. I like things to look like they "belong", and the lip seems like it would make them feel just that extra bit "natural" on the bike. Plus, would make the profile of them look a bit lower.

Understood on the texturing. I was thinking maybe some kind of stamping process could do a pattern, possibly even at the same time the cuts were made to the blank steel sheets...

The idea of a rear-projecting spur for passenger pegs though, that would give me even more incentive for me to want to upgrade personally, above and beyond a more secure, sturdier peg mount gives all by itself. I might not use it right away, but just having the option there and ready to go would be great!

One consideration. If I had a complaint about the current UFP's (which I really don't) is that when I counter steer I can sometimes feel my boot rubbing on the front wheel. It is not really a big deal and maybe it is because of the pegs I have but just something to consider with the new design.

Great idea, Kevin!

OAD, could you add basically a mirror of the front peg mounting cam/holes at the back? I think that would get them far enough back that they wouldn't interfere with the driver's legs at lights, too...

Even if it adds a little cost, I'd prefer to have that included in the design, too.

[quote="old as dirt"] so your probably right in the ball park on pricing. I hope to come in less than that actually.

So being a newbie in the forum, if/when this deal happens, how do I pay you, Paypal?

No he is in TN. You must deliver 1 pig, 12 laying hens and a case of motor oil (preferably Shell Rotella t6 5w-40)

I'm sure he'd take that deal. Do you know how much a whole hog costs?

I want to suggest the following names: Tennessee Asphalt Gougers. Redneck Hoof-Hangers. UFP Evolution.

it won't be anything to do with the letters U or F or P. Jeff did a great job with those and that is his brand name IMO.

I hope to not have asphalt gougers.

maybe southern comfort for your feet.

Having just the one version would allow for alternate uses, too, such as adding an eye-bolt for securing sidebag straps. There'd be no extra material costs and no extra stampings. I think it could be done with only one extra bend (three in total) - Stamp, bend both wings, then bend the front and the back up to match the front of the floorboards and to fold up the back end so the rear peg wing curls around the side of the pillion footrest. Other than that, there's just three extra holes to drill - or can those be stamped when the metal is cut?
