any suggestions for saddle bags / side cases for an Mp3 500?
Preferably of substance,but removable.. if pictures of "suggestions" are available, please post.

What is your definition of "substance".

Also look at other peoples avatar and add that info to yours. Helps recognize who you are and what you ride.

Do a search for Firstgear Silverstone saddle bags at Motorcycle Superstore. Very roomy and attractive. Easy to put on and take off.

Fehling makes sidecase mounts

The Pic is a 400 but Frame wise they are the same

+1 that. I have them but don't use them all the time. They can hold quite a bit, have a rain cover, and are soft bags instead of the hard bags.

that I'm going to have my fab shop make me some brackets for my 500.

By the time I get back to riding again.

So I'll be ready to ride up to NW Arkansas (maybe in the spring) and see what there is to ride there. I just want hard saddlebags, so I might be able to carry a gallon of gas using the Rotopax container.

Leave room to carry other things for longer trips.

Maksor, see if Fehling makes those brackets still for the 400 or 500. Cause I heard they quit producing them.

I just know that your picture here might give my FAB shop a better idea in making me brackets to hold my saddlebags.

"substance" ... probably meaning something that will hold up to the weight of the saddlebags that could be removable without being difficult to work with.

And if you have a picture of your ride, then use it as your avatar similar to what I did with my 500.

Fehling makes a 250 model that a Twisted Throttle carried. It hits the air filter on a 400. The model for a 400 was not brought into the US. Maskor are you saying the 400 version will fit a 500 / Fuoco?

yes Fehling stopped with the 250 brackets and the 400 will work on a 500 same frame

I was able to purchase direct from Fehling . Received them in 9 days.. And I have 45 liter side cases attached to them. Used them three times this year and plans are for at least 3 more trips this year with them attached.

They haven't presented any balance issues when loaded but do reduce gas mileage whether loaded or empty.

I am not familiar with Fehling as a company. Does the Fehling bracket support Givi sidecases or another proprietary brand?

GIVI is all I believe.

If anyone is interested in hard sidecases that are made by Givi and can go on the Fehling mounts let me know. I have a pair for sale. I'll have to find the model number but these are very roomy.

Why in all the discussions of 500 saddlebags has no one posted that these brackets would work before?

There have been a few previous discussions of side cases for each of the various models. I discovered the Fehling as a result of those discussions.

As for the case size, that's just it, the size. I happen to like the E 41 side case. Any side case will have some affect on gas mileage. The larger the case the more the effect.

For road trips I wouldn't do it any other way. Some of us have seen it done other ways and it isn't pretty!

while not very attractive, he said they were watertight and held quite a bit of gear....

and those are pics AFTER he took alot of the gear off and put it in ponydrvr truck.

I respectfully disagree. The Givi E21 are nothing more than a pair of clutch-purses masquerading as actual luggage. I borrowed a set from a friend (tested them on a KLR650). The shape limits what you load. Capacity is very limited. On an MP3 (whatever the size) I see no advantage of these vs smart packing with a top case and the under seat storage. Ok, maybe an extra top-loading waterproof dufflebag.

Now, the luggage racks mentioned do give options. You can use the various soft water-proof bags sold by Nelson-Riggs or Ortlieb. The racks will keep these soft bags from marring the body work or melting on exhaust. Those soft saddle bags have as much, if not more, useful space than some of the mentioned Givi bags.

Disclaimer: I do like Givi. Just not all of their stuff.

Double checked my model number and I have a set of matte black Givi E41 for sale. That's 41 liters of storage room in each. They are monokey mounting cases and fit the Fehling racks perfectly.

Be aware Smrfs saddlebags will be fine, however the Fehling brackets are for a 250, not a 400 or 500. Can damage the air filter housing.

I wasn't saying anything about the brackets for sale on this message thread for that reason.

I don't remember exactly but I believe I called them and gave them my credit card. Be sure to ask for the English version of the installation instructions. The original are German or French, neither of which I understand.

Not true.

The brackets are available for the 400/500 as well and I believe they have changed the design so the interference issue is resolved. No reason not to since the frames are the same only the airboxes are different.

Since we're talking differences between the 250, 400, and 500...does anyone know if the inside diameter of our handle grips are the same size or not?? I have a set of Throttlemeister throttle locks and also HVMP brand extra heavy weight vibration dampening barends for sale that were used on my 250. Info would be appreciated.

I can't say with absolute certainity but I would believe them to be the same on all three models.

I'm still really liking this side case mounting solution from last year:

Looks clean and I can't say I would much care for the chrome finish brackets on a scoot with no other chrome on it.

GIVI has the WingRack system available. With slight modification and some custom fabrication they work well on the 500. KennyD (scooterdoo) has his mounted in that fashion.
