I think you do have to pay - LT version is more than 2 meters long and is a trike with 465 mm distance between the 2 front wheels.

The way people did in the past for LT was to take photos parked along side other bikes and send it to congestion charge guys for exemption with a £10 annual fee - they dont accept that anymore and consider LT version to be CC payable.

Now what people do is - register on CC auto charge by paying £10 one time fee - the auto charge should automatically charge you every time you go within the zone so it is not your responsibility to pay - but - as the CC cameras only record the front plates you dont get charged as you dont have the front plates. The idea is if CC has to take money, you are ready to give as you have registered for auto payment.

Ok so that said would it be wrong to not pay the auto charge and wait to see if a bill comes though the door? I only go into town now and then and if the cameras only look at the front of the bike they don't have my details?? Or would the wardens give a ticket?

Technically you should pay. However they have no way to charge you, so no-one I know with an LT bothers to do anything. I've never heard of an LT rider being charged, and I also think it may set an awkward precedent if LT riders start registering.

Trike over 2m long
Hi all,

Thank you for this discussion and your comments! Reading through them I realised that this topic was discussed in 2013.
Therefore, would anyone be able to write a couple of lines with their recent experience in central london with a trike over 2m long?
I put a deposit for one and only found out that it is 2180mm long ... which will mean that I am 180mm longer ...
Could anyone with a similar trike share their recent experience with regard to this?

Do you think we should do something about this as a comunity? Knowing that Scooters over 2m long go for free, why trikes should make a difference?

Thank you in advance!

BR,
Nikolay

Hi Koshera,

I started riding into London in the summer. I confess I haven't actually registered for the CC as I do not think the circumstances discussed in 2013 have altered.

My sense this is an example of 'let sleeping dogs lie'.......

Hello guys,

Anyone got a congestion charge for his 500?
I got a message CC London office and apparently I have to pay every time I enter.
So, for the time being I haven't got any charges but might get them all together at the end of the month. Any experience from anyone else regarding this recently? I believe there are rear facing cameras when going in the tunnel in Park lane but not 100%.

I don't know if you can pay the £10 for the 500 as it's longer than 2m. My 300 is registered as it is 2m exactly so therefore exempt. When the exemption finishes, I will put it on autopay and see if it gets charged - the other forums say that the only front facing cameras are on Park Lane, although that was a few years ago so who knows if things have changed!

Just a quick update - I completely forgot to renew my London congestion charge exemption for my 300 so it lapsed. However, I registered for the autopay system - cost £10. I've been riding into London through Elephant over London Bridge. No charges have been made so i guess what they say about the cameras only capturing front license plates is correct.

That settles it for me - if I persist with a trike, next one will be a 500 or perhaps the Kymco.
