Hi all,

I'm looking for a HID conversion kit for my mp3 500.

Based on Installed HID's tonight, I think the recommended to go is:

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-HID-Kit-Slim-Ballast-35W-or-55W

But I've also read in this forum that ddmtuning seems to deliver very slowly, sometimes after weeks... is this still valid?

Based on that, I've search amazon (prime deliver in 2 days) for similar HID kits, and my candidates are:

Xentec: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FBKW6R4
JLM: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EPVKJU6/
Kensun: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00802GMIO/

The first two reads "H11 (H8/H9)", so I'm not totally sure if this compatible with the mp3 H8 socket...

The last one is clearly H8, but more expensive...

Any advice? Do you know if any of these won't fit or will do?

Thanks!

Cannot speak to shipping with DDM. I just go and pick them up. Either of the first two would be fine. Just select the bulb type when ordering.

They had some in their retail shop in San Diego

Stated as such on the mfr's website, the FAQ section: "Are your products DOT approved? Any misuse of said product is done so at the buyers own risk, DDM Tuning is not responsible for any complaints, fines, or damages done for driving on public roads with non DOT approved parts. "

HID's are only legal, if used with a Reflector that is designed for them. None of the retrofit kits meet this requirement.

Not sure what you mean here... they ship from China as far as I know...

Yeah, that's my issue... the bulb type selector has as option "H11/H8/H9"... are all the same or what?

Thanks Alexb and OAD for the inputs.

Before we start drifting to legality issues... can we please go back to my original question and help me decide about those HIDs?

Anyone knows if H11/H9/H8 are compatible bulb holders?

If you go to the amazon page it lets you select the bulb type. There are many to choose from. Check the threads for the type, I think its H8?

Pulled this from an old thread its a H8. The H11/H8/H9 have the same base hence the grouping.

here is the link to the ones I installed. very happy with them.

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-35W-55W-Dual-Motorcycle-HID-Kit

you need the H8, and I went with the 35w for low beams. they are great. and also went with the 5000k color, this is more white and really helps at night make thing stand out better. not like the dull yellowish stock color.

the best thing is the price drop $30 , thats a deal for the dual lights kit.

It's H8 for the mp3 500. And, again, that's the issue: there is no H8 option alone, only grouped together with H11 & H9...

I guess these 3 types are compatible somehow, but wanted some feedback before purchasing them.

Thanks 14perry, already read that. But...

That's why I'm still confused... if, according to the yahoo link, they are not compatible, why are they grouped with no option to specify H8?

This grouping is done by several vendors in amazon...

Delivery time. 2 weeks from ddmtuning vs 2 days from amazon.

Also amazon has a great return policy, so perhaps I just order one of them and try, if there is not strong argument against them.

They are the same mounting base. One is a low beam, one a high, and the other a different connector. All you care about is does it clip into the housing? The rest is a couple crimp connectors or soldering.

You'll probably want to change out that cyclops light for a nice white LED to match the HIDs when you install them. Check this thread: What are the bulb types used on the 500?

Front light LED that I used in the cyclops is here at this link: http://www.ledlight.com/t10-wedge-5-ultra-bright-smt-led-light.aspx

I installed the DDM Tuning H8 35W at 5000K and they work great. Here's the original thread that got me to install mine: HOW TO: Installing HIDs in an MP3 500

HID
Thanks Maksor.
Do you have a very bright, in daylight super visible, for the day running LED light position for my 400?
You can send it to Holland address if yes.

merci

Thanks a lot for the hint, BravoTwoFour. In fact, already read that thread and the LED for the cyclops is already at home, I will replace all together.

Thanks for the confirmation, Maksor!

I guess the process is to keep the original harness, put the ballast in between the circuit, and replace the bulbs.

Just ordered the JLM kit and they are already shipped! I love the Amazon Prime speed...

Received!

The bulb housing reads 'H11' but in the cable there is a label with 'H8/H9/H11'.

The bulb and the housing seems to ve heavily coupled, so I now need to dig on how to fit it in the mp3...

Don't touch that glass bulb! Oils from your fingers will damage it and when lighted it could fail. Google it up.

I think some HID kits include an alcohol wipe to clean the bulb, else you can use rubbing alcohol and lint free cloth.

Thanks for the advice, didn't touch the bulb itself.

Already installed in my 500. Easier than expected, no need to remove all the tupperware, only the side panels (the red ones). The connections are really straight forward. The H11 housing fit the H8 perfectly. The only difference is that the H8 forms an L shape, and the H11 is totally straight, but no problem on the bike, there is enough room.

The ballast are huge, and now I don't think that the banshee will fit inside (mine os also a huge horn)...

Some pictures coming in the following days.
