Hey all,

I posted an intro in the General section, but thought I'd throw it here too since I'll be spending a lot of time here asking questions and learning.

Yep, I'm the guy that scored the 85 T5 that was posted on page 81 of Deal Of The Day..
Spare motor isn't a T5, but still did well as far as a deal goes.

Well, since Winter is upon us here in MN, I'll have a lot of time to work on it, but not drive it. Initial thoughts are to do a paint job on it in the off season.

I did score a pretty cheap Malossi kit for it off of Ebay, so that and a carb rebuild will be in the works too.

That's one thing that sucks about having 4 seasons Crying or Very sad emoticon

Welcome, you'll get lots of advice here on your project and usually help when you get stuck. T5 is a great bike and sounds like you're one lucky guy,

But you're gonna paint this?

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

I can't see why, looks like some love rubbin' could bring back that paint pretty nicely and you really can't beat the original factory finish if it can be saved.

There are a few good threads on the topic of reclaiming the original paint, please do some reading before you repaint. Get ALL the mechanical stuff working 100% and ride it for a while to see how you feel when you get to know the bike a bit. Also working on the motor, controls etc on a freshly painted bike could be trouble.

If you must do it, I get it & I'm sure it'll look sharp, but remember that you can paint later if you have to but you can never unpaint it. I vote to keep it original, please.

Well, it's not quite as nice as it appears paint wise. Both cowls are pretty scraped up. The mudguard is beat too, just can't see it in the pic.

I'll do the clean up first, and some reading.
It does have issues with the clutch cable already, so yeah, I'll be tinkering with the mechanicals.

Any advice on a seat? I'm assuming that it's longer than a PX?

I've seen them on the overseas sites, but that shipping is a killer.

Thanks!

Nice scooter, and one that you won't see everyday over here.

I agree with Voodoo about the paint- scraped or otherwise if that's the original paint consider keeping it origianl for a while. Get polishing compound (NOT rubbing compound) and start massaging that red back to life. Wax it and leave it for next season and focus on fixing your mechanical issues. (You're in Minnesota, so what else do you have to do for the next 4 months)!

If you can scrape enough pennies to pick up a good used T5 factory seat off UK Ebay you will find that the appearance of that scooter will improve 100%.

This time next year you might find yourself thanking Voodoo for suggesting you keep the original paint.

And keep us updated on your progress (with pictures!)- it's a great find!

Yeah, it appears that way. I just haven't pulled off the vinyl tape from it yet to see if the padding is affected. Thanks for the link!

Trouble with the kickstart lever. Why is it so low?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/laqjx09z2jeg1r7/2013-12-13%2015.08.58.jpg

What does the "R" sticker mean?

Is this a factory exhaust or aftermarket?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lrqaubn0m13mp6v/2013-12-13%2015.09.09.jpg

Did Polini make front suspension, or is this just a sticker?

Thanks!

Have you checked this out yet? http://www.scooterhelp.com/serial/VNX5T.manual.html

Can you pull it up any higher?

Just a sticker someone else put on.

Looks like an aftermarket exhaust.

Hey t5ers what is up with that kick start lever? Looks upside down, but the lip on top of kick say otherwise. With that angle, it doesn't look as though you can get a full kick out of it.

It looks to me like a P series kick lever, where you need a T5 lever.

See the little bend up just after where is mounts to the quadrant?

Could be that the splines on the inside of the kickstart lever have been stripped. I had the same issue and replacing the lever solved the problem.
