Is there a taller windscreen for the MP3 500 than the Givi 340D?

Out on the road the 340D just does not protect me enough from the winter winds. Rode up to Hatch, NM (30 miles) yesterday, and I was completely worn to a frazzle from the winds by the time we got back. Admittedly the winds were extremely rough yesterday, but there are enough of them here in NM I would really like a solution.

I've seen the monstrous over the head ones, don't want that, but one that's approx 5 - 6" taller ( 31-32") than the 340D is just about what I need for winter riding.

I've considered adding an extension to the Givi if there isn't a stock screen available. Have looked on the internet, but couldn't find anything.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I installed a Variotour adjustable windscreen extension and it works really well - but I have the OEM Piaggio windscreen, so not sure if it would work for the Givi. Varitour makes many types though so it might be worth a look at what else they have, likely one would suit. I think I got mine from Twisted Throttle.

I usually have the extension down in its retracted position except on colder / windier days. Moves pretty easily.

Here's a pic from the front.

install some 1/2" spacers on the top mount bolts, you will need longer bolts. this will tilt the top of the screen out just a bit and makes a huge difference in the air flow for taller riders. you can also install a laminar lip.

OAD - I have already installed 3/4" extenders, and that helped. But I need more. The laminar lip might do it. Thanks.

Bravo -I'll check into the Variotour extender. Thanks also.

Top only - they kicked the windscreen out really good. Fine for warmer weather, but the colder, windier weather really calls out the need for more windscreen, I think.

sounds like a laminar lip time.

So what did you come up with. I'm 6'3" and just picked up a 2007 mp3 250. Rode 70 miles today in high wind(not cold, just lots of wind). I don't enjoy fighting the wind and the noise level in my helmet is uncomfortable! I saw a Givi with an adjustable section in the middle. Has anyone seen or tried these?
Thanks,
Hip

I had the "air-flow" windscreen on my MP3 250...a fairly good windscreen, much better than the original. Unfortunately the "air-flow" is not made for the 500.

I have made a 5" extender for my Givi windscreen to see what happens...have not had the chance to try it out yet.

I'll check out "air-flow". Post pics of your windshield solution if you can. The mp3 500 looks awesome, Congrats on the upgrade!

Has the OP ever tired a Madstad Windscreen for the 500? I don't have one but many folks on the forum swear by them and they are adjustable and can come in several different heights from the factory, as I understand it.

The downside to the Madstad is that they are more expensive than the Givi windscreen.

Tall windscreen?
Cummings

No, I haven't checked out the Madstd windscreen, although it sure seems like a good alternative. As long as I have the Givi I'd like to get something that works with it. Maksor tells me Givi sells the top piece alone, with the fittings too, so I'm looking into that. It may work.

Thanks for your advice on the Madstad.

I haven't priced a Givi windscreen, but I think my Madstad was under $140.

I think that was with my discount. ... LoL

Call them, see what they have available for your height.

I'll swear by the Madstad .... if this one got busted, I would replace it with the same.

Tall windscreen?
I just ordered an "Airflow" top piece and the fitments. We'll see how it fits, but from the looks of my Givi screen it should fit fine.

I'll let you know how it works after I get it installed.

Oddly enough, I requested information from GiviUSA and received notice that it had been received and someone from the organization would respond soon. A week later and no response, so I ordered it elsewhere.

so let me get this right. your going to install the top half of an airflow windscreen to your existing mp3 500 givi windshield.

Please post pics .

I like what this picture is pulling, but I just wasn't too much interested in the full wind screen.

Taller Windscreen
Here are a couple of shots of the Givi "Airflow" top shield I added to the Givi windscreen to gain a few inches for winter riding. Pardon the poor lighting, but I just got it installed and it was too cold to take it outside for a ride today...maybe tomorrow!

As you can see, the "Airflow" top piece fits rather nicely on the lower Givi screen, and it was not that difficult to get fitted. I'll post again after the shake- down ride, probably tomorrow.

It was just a few three weeks or so ago that maksor in the Netherlands let me know that this piece was available.
