Well I get to finally join the world of Vespa.... A little over 4 years ago I had a twist and go scooter something well just fun to ride. I however have always had a love for the vintage Vespa. Well my husband made a trade. He had a motorcycle in the garage that was just waiting. So he and I both know a local guy who owns and works on Vespas. So here is my scooter before anything has been done. It needs work and lots of it! Excited to help and get my hands dirty.

That looks like a lovely bike, welcome to the world of NSM Vespas. I think you will have a great time getting that bike back on the road. It looks like it will clean up nicely and be a sweet looking ride.

What are your plans for it?

there are a lot of folks on this forum with great knowledge, and are always happy to help with advice from their experience. they have helped me a lot already on my rally.

What a great Christmas present. They don't get better than a scooter!

well my plans for it are still pretty well spinning a web in my brain. Being a girl I really really want to paint it pink with black and white touches here and there. I want it to have the racing number on the front of it. and from there keep it simple. The guy who we got it from is redoing the motor and doing the a big boar kit on it. So for the motor we just have to pull it. I want for sure the white wall tires. The rest of my plans well still kind of up in the air.

I'm guessing that you'll make sure he also inspects the engine and replaces all seals and bearings whilst he has the engine, and of course replaces all the bits that should be replaced at these times (cruciform etc).

Do you know what kit he is going to put on it?

I like the idea of the number on the front. That will look good. The body looks to be in pretty good nick overall compared to a lot of ones we see around.

I am 100% sure he will take care of all of that. He works for the local Vespa shop Gran Sport. He does all the painting and engine work. We are also friends with him and the owner. I am not sure what he is doing to it. He talked to husband about it. LOL I am not engine inclined but I am going to be.

Looks like a fun project, enjoy it. Some nice pics on that site. The red rally looks like a twin of my one. Will be well and truly worth it when it gets on the road. Make sure you do learn what you can in regards the engine. These older bikes do need a bit of attention. At least you have good people you can get good advice from so I'm sure it will all work out well.

Welcome! that's a cool bike! Pretty exciting getting a cool vespa for Christmas!
I hope you do learn to do some of your own wrenching and fixing.. that's where a huge part of the fun is in my O.

So if/when your hands get all gross
and dirty and greasy, get some of this from PepBoys (or similar) it works awesome and it smells amazing! if you like orange!

Welcome and safe happy scooting!

Congrats! You will love riding this scooter around...
One bit of advice..
Get it running and safe.
Ride it for awhile before doing a complete restore.
You may find yourself liking it as it is with all the beauty marks and original.
You hear about people getting new scooters and they spend too much $$ and time right off the bat.
Hell... I've done that a time or two now that I think about it

Good luck and keep us posted!

I plan on learning all I can. I do have some great guys that are more than willing to teach me all I can.. I am wanting to get it running and driving. Like I said I had a twist and go so I am going to have to learn the shifting and what not. I am hoping that this summer she will be some what restored. I am lucky to have a body and paint guy for a brother in law so when it comes to that I am not to worried. I am full on excited for it to be summer and be riding to and from work on it, and meeting other scooter lovers as well.

The hubby here.

We got the engine pulled tonight. It will be going to Gran sport in Davenport iowa for a total overhaul. It will be getting a DR177 kit as they says its great and reliable. It will be all new, seals, bearings, carb, trans, clutch, exc.. We already have the expansion chamber.

If you guys and gals have watched american pickers on TV, you prob seen some shows with them at Grans sport as for they have built multiple show winning bikes for the guys.

My brother is a body man at a shop and we will do a complete strip and repaint.

I am a Harley guy and built a bunch of beautiful bikes and pretty stoked on doing this! Going to be alot of fun.

Historically, this is true. Pink is the color of european skin after physical exertion and was associated with masculinity, Blue is the color of the Virgin Mary and was associated with feminity, purity and virginity (not the color white, which is actually the color of luxury). Blue for boys and pink for girls is a modern invention.

Vespa never made a pink scooter, in any model (excluding moderns). Buddy's come in pink. Enough said.

Pink scooter for male or female = ughhhh. Burgundy now you are talking.

its a good thing we live in modern times and we're talking about a vehicle realized in the 20th century.

I don't like the typical 'Barbie' pink either, but how about a pink that Piaggio might have used back then? I'm thinking a metallic paint with the same feel and tone as Dr.Ona's lovely scoots at the bottom... I reckon the colour below is subtle enough to make it look almost age-correct.

Well I am still trying to decide I am thinking a bright pink. I know its not period correct. However I am also thinking a teal as well as a maroon. I want it to stand out. I was thinking at least with pink it will stand out. I am still trying to decide. I am still doing my homework on the scoot and looking at photos of them.

Welcome! Awesome bike and one of my favorites to ride. Low and slow turns around in a circle on itself.

I wouldn't paint it I'd just get the motor fixed and ride it to start but if you got a color in mind and follow through on the project you'll have a ton of fun! Good luck!

This is good advice, before you paint it see if you like riding it.

Just my O but I know! Don't go w/ pink.. it's just ugly and cliche! you can do something feminine w/ like a robbin's egg blue, or even just a nice creamy white with the right accents (seat cover, any pin stripe or hand painted script, etc etc ). just not pink.. it makes the scooters look cheap in my O..
Just my O.. but I thunk there are lots of ways you can put a feminine spin on the scoot w/o using pink.
Regardless it's a cool bike and I'm sure you'll love it!

This was what I was referring to. The goofy notion of pink being a girls' color. I'll point out that I live in San Francisco where there is a strange relationship between pink and ugly. The more pink shit a woman has on her scooter (pink gloves, pink accented jacket, pink scooter, pink pet carrier case, etc) the more likely she is to be horribly unattractive. What do I care. My wife is hot and thinks the color pink is for ****.
