Any suggestions for (preferably) free software that will print photos?

I used to have a program that came with a color printer about three computers ago. The original download would not install on my Windows 7 machine. The "latest and greatest" is rubbish. Most s/w I try crops the pics illogically or just wants me to send for prints.

I just need to import some .JPGs, arrange them on the page and send to the printer. The way that the old HP program did.

Windows Live Photo Gallery - free http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/photo-gallery#photogallery=overview not as good as Lightroom or Photoshop but still pretty good and has better editing tools than many paid programs.

I find Irfanview fulfils all my image-related needs. A brilliant piece of work.

http://www.irfanview.com/

Photoshop it's not, and it doesn't pretend to be, but if you want a file (or multiple files done as a batch) tweaked, printed, resized, 'sharpened', whatever, Irfanview does the job. It knows of more file types than I knew existed, and will happily translate between them.

I've been a very happy user, both as an individual and when I was working in the broadcast TV industry. One of only two freeware programs that I've ever sent an unsolicited donation to.

Irfanview is pretty powerful and paint.net is another fuller featured free program but both have more of a learning curve than Windows Live Photo Gallery. Common adjustments are very easy in PLPG.

Great suggestions, y'all, but which one is best at printing?

Note: I do not like the way some programs, e.g. picassa and Nero Kwik Media, take it upon themselves to search my hard drive and scoop in every photo I have in there. All 20.6Gb of them.

I use PhotoFiltre (free from here) as my primary image editing tool. I just checked and it easily prints to fit the page.

There is also a version provided in a zip file, which can be extracted to the directory of your choice, making it essentially portable, or green.
