I just got a quote for adding 946 to my policy (primavera and PX). My annual premiums for both shifties is $99. I was stunned when Geico informed me that 946 will cost just additional $99 a year. If they made no mistake my reaction is "Wow"...
How much does average policy for modern auto Vespa cost?

That is impossible to answer unless we know what your particular policy covers. There are all kinds of coverage options.

I am stunned by the rates people I know in the states have for their scooters and motorcycles.

I am paying $60.00 a month for my GTV in Ontario, Canada.

My GTS policy is cheap. The Ducati, on the other hand, adds some spice to the party.

You have comprehensive, collision, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. You just insured a scooter that cost the better part of 11 grand. Comprehensive, collision, and uninsured/underinsured motorist will be proportional to the value of the scooter.

(as an aside - unless you have very few assets to protect, those are very low limits for liability coverage)

Not just that, but location, age, marital status, credit score, etc. it's not that simple.

Also, +1 to what Dooglas said. With the metal body, I'd get a lower deductible on collision. A small ding can easily run more than $500. How often have you needed bodywork?

I know there a lot of variables, but for my 3 scooters, my policy is $220 a year.

Corrected: My policy also covers my Ducati. So, 3 scooters and a Duck.

I haven't insured it. I just got a quote from Geico and decided to get an advise from my comrades. Would you recommend me to match cars coverage numbers? I think (I need to check) my cars' in coverage is hundreds of thousands range. I know that coverage should be high enough, I know my car policy one is high enough but I have never completely understood how it works.

I think that $1000 deductible is due to the theft incidence. I'm not sure if I could get lower, but I'll bet it would be costly. That steering lock ain't fooling the insurance company.

A local body shop repainted couple scratches on my PX's side cowl, $70. I have never filed any claims in my life both for cars and scooters.
I keep collision/comprehensive on PX just because it cost me $30 a year. Primavera is registered as antique, not insured as antique (probably it should be). $1000 deductible is acceptable for me. I am a little bit confused about liability portion of the policy.

I always thought that collision and comprehensive are the most important and expensive parts of the policy and those uninsured, property damage etc etc coverages are some weird requirements. It looks like I was wrong.

Un/underinsured, (at least in the SW) are your best (insurance) friends, IMO.

+1 I have liability coverage (damage to others) plus collision insurance (repairs my scoot even if I am at fault). It costs me about CDN$400 a year. Insurance premiums in Quebec are generally lower than in Ontario.

I just keep my Co.because I know the phone #and add on's are (about 10 minutes) instant.

Uninsured/underinsured 100,000/300,000/25,000
It looks like I have to match those numbers in my scooter coverage. Cars and scooters are insured by different companies.
I still have time, it is winter. My 946 is not registered yet anyway. I have at least three more months to avoid additional spendings:)

Keep in mind you won't have theft coverage until you put your policy into play. Depending on your storage facility and neighborhood that may not be much risk.

I have 300,000/500,000/300,000 coverage on a 1980 p200e and a 2002 ET4 for $180/year.

I dont know what kind of car you drive, but its very likely the cost of the annual insurance is a higher percentage of the cars original msrp, than the insurance cost for the 946 or any other PTW.

Considering that NO cars replacement cost can equal what even moderate medical costs can quickly add up to, coupled with the much greater risk of major medical bills for an injured PTW rider, if you ask me the best possible PTW insurance is both a must-have and a still a bargain.

Thanks for your input. I'll change the coverage to 100/300/100 as soon as spring is here. 946 will be registered and taxed also next spring, there is no point to do it now.
I want to thank everybody who responded to my question.

I carry 100/300/100 and uninsured/underinsured on everything with wheels. 1k deductible mine is $800 a year for a '13 GTS Super, '11 S150ie, and a '69 Rally 180 with agreed value of 6k. I have seen some people with as little as 10k in property damage which in my opinion is under insured if your in an accident and at fault.

$64 per year for my Rally 180 with liability only for 100/300k in sunny SoCal. I haven't purchased collision/theft/comprehensive because the insurance companies always get their money back within three years after a claim.

With 250/500/100k coverage for liability and uninsured, collision and comprehensive coverage, and low deductible ($250 collision, $100 other), I just paid $234 for a year's insurance on my LX150 -- and also established that my mileage is going down on my car to below 7500/yr, thus saving $200/year on my car insurance.

This is impressive. I would expect huge premiums for 250/500/100.
My car mileage is low anyway, 11k since Amerivespa 2012.
At least one of my scooters will never reach such a mileage

Isn't your 946 the one that's going to be stored in a hermetically sealed glass box?

I'm paying $44/month for the GTS250 and $42/month for my sister's PeopleS250. Full coverage, as there's a note on each of them.

My wife and I pay $180/year, for both my BV 500 and her GTS 250. Coverages 100/300/100, deductible $250. But we also have two cars, home, and trailer with same company.

Actually, higher liability coverage has only a modest effect on premium - especially compared to collision/comprehensive vs. no collision/comprehensive. I have the same liability coverage on my scooters as I carry on my car.

I could of got it so much cheaper but my policy covers damage to leathers, helmet etc and breakdown cover... and MCE are quite good insurers!

I pay about $220 per year. Not only does it pay for anything on the bike plus injuries, I have a supplemental hospital coverage. This means that if I get injured on the bike, they pay the first $5000 of medical bills (effectively covering our annual out of pocket maximum deductible).

Paying 4 X as much as you Doug, no tickets/accidents in 10 years...
