The other day in the supermarket I overheard a young father, whose appearance would not have suggested this, tell his mate, "I bought one of those $10 food gift boxes two days ago. You know, the ones that help poor kids. Yesterday I bought a scratch ticket and won $10!" He urged his friend to to do likewise.

Selfless acts are wonderful. (And a little unexpected thanks from the Universe is nice too.)

The guys at our recycling center (back parking lot container) always do stuff for the homeless. The have slippers (flip flops) and food the local grocery store gives them etc. I usually get them a couple of boxes of macadamia nuts covered in chocolate. With Nemo being sick i'm way behind on stuff this year but yesterday one of the guys was ahead of me in line at our local grocery store. I told Maureen (cashier) to put in on my bill. When he goes to pay she says"judy has it". The smile on this face was priceless and he must of thanked me 20 times. Chocolates would of been cheaper but he had the fixings to make a great sandwich for him and his buddy who works with him. Much better for him than chocolates. I will say Hawaii has a giving culture. People get stuff for the people who deliver things etc. Aloha spirit. 8)
