If it were me, I'd be going after the Sym. It's new, from a dealer, so should have warranty. Plus, if it goes for less than $2000 I would think it's a super deal.
The Aprilia is also a great bike, but with salvage title I would be very concerned.
The only Sym I see on ebay is in Texas, currently at $1576.

Among other things, that has resulted in difficulties in parts supply. I think the expectation is that this will be worked out with time.

SYM is a great scoot and being new is the one I would buy. A scoot with a scraped title will have no resale value. Go SYM.

Sym Citicom 300. The Scarabeo is an awesome bike, but the factors are too much in favor of the Sym:
- It's new
- +/- 100cc extra
- Personally... I like the style better
- Doesn't have 5 years of material age to it's components. No matter how well it's maintained, rubber and plastic bits start to dry out.
Also... WHY was it salvaged? We've all heard the stories of "Oh, it was tipped over in the driveway at 5mph, and the insurance company insisted on totaling it...no big", when in fact it's probably been sitting in floodwaters or had half of it's fairings ripped off at 50mph. Good bodywork and great mechanics can often take destroyed machines and make them look shiny new.
LOOK new. But underneath....
I say go for the Sym. Everyone who owns one swear by it's engine design (even the Symbas, which are based on 60 year old Honda tech with Sym's improvements).

I had that model of Sym for a couple of years. It was a very capable scooter. I would lean that way.

I would stay away from a "Salvaged Titled" vehicle unless I was EXTREMELY familiar with the make and model.
There is a reason it is called, salvaged.

That SYM is a screaming deal. MSRP is $4700 and SYM is a very respected manufacturer with a good reputation for quality.
And parts supply for Aprilia is not stellar either. The 2008 and 2009 Scarabeo 200 was known to have a few issues. It's a great looking bike, but I would not consider one with a salvage title...you don't know what problems might be lurking underneath.

Vespa all the way. I wouldn't consider anything else. I've found all my scooters on craigslist.com. Great deals with low miles.

If it were only 25cc smaller it would be an ideal cannonball scoot.

Somethings to consider:
At this time and from what I hear, the foreseeable future, parts will be difficult to come by for Sym scooters. You have to ask yourself are you willing to potentially loose out on a big portion of your riding season waiting on service parts? Since you've never ridden the Sym you may discover ergonomic issues making your ride uncomfortable or awkward. See if you can't get a hold of one for a test ride.
Having Salvage title would make me nervous. Since this is the off season for many riders I would keep look for deals.
Just my $0.02 worth.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Grump of the day.
I never post a link to a scooter someone is bidding on. It can have unfortunate results for the poster. They don't need the competition.
I'd have been more guarded with my information. Neophytes don't realize how easy it is to google details. It's a scooter eat scooter world.

I've been riding a Citycom 300i for over four years, and 13000 trouble free miles. So far I've had no trouble getting the few parts I've needed. Brake pads, air filter, sparkplug, belt and rollers, tires.

That was a deal. I'm not sure it still has the factory warranty, and the melted plastic cover on the speedo is tough to get off, but for the price, it's a whole lot of Scooter.

It would not come with any warranty. I recently purchased a new 09 HD200 from old dealer stock. I contacted Alliance Powersports the current distributer for SYM. They will only warrant units that were sold within two years of the build date.

Ok I had to go and edit the misspelling in the title of this thread since the OP didn't. Was driving me nuts.
