So Mother Nature decided to smite me today. Wind blew me and several others off the road on 93 near Boulder. I was riding my Scarabeo. One person claimed the gust was 90, though I don't quite believe that. Bottom line, I had to lay it down or get blown into a barbed wire fence! The couple miles up to crashing I had been riding at what felt like 45 degrees. There was no place to pull over and no place to stop, so...

I don't feel too bad as a large Dodge pickup also blew off, and several others.

A recent transplant from TX, ironically named Scooter, was a fellow rider. He had the truck and gear to help me off the road and into town. I owe that guy and his fiance' a dinner. I'm very grateful for the assistance, that guy was super cool.

The bike will have to remain in Boulder and get some love from Sportique and the insurance. Lots of plastics damage and a little bit of twist in the forks.

I'm sore but not significantly hurt. Ride safe my friends!

So very sad to hear about this, but am very glad you are relatively OK.

The thing can be fixed or replaced. You, not so much.

Be well.

Sorry you got dumped, Skully. That road's dangerous in Dec/Jan. I used to live on the other side of Rocky Flats and the wind comes down those canyons like a hurricane!. Glad it wasn't worse.

Wow, a 90mph wind gust is frightening. Glad you're ok. I keep thinking how tough that would be and maybe the only solution Easton lay the bike over and lay on a low spot.

Scary stuff.

Right place WRONG time Glad to hear you were not injured. One never expects how much wind can really affect riding. I hope you get your scoot back soon and it's better than ever. Merry Christmas!

Could have been a lot worse. Had this been on a motorcycle, you may have pinned a leg underneath the bike, whereas on a scooter, its inherent design allows the rider to be much safer in an accident. My dad was T-boned by a car while on a scooter. The car hit the floorboard/legshield but not him. He went flying but wasn't pinned or slammed to the pavement. I'm very glad to read you're not seriously damaged.

an accident
Hi, Skully

Merry Christmas! So bad about your "off," but I'm really glad you weren't affected more than you seemingly were.

I know what you mean by the 90 mph winds...there's a pass thru the Organ mountains just east of Las Cruces, near White Sands Missile base, and one day it hit 125 mph thru there!

This is a good excuse to not do too much today! Again, Merry Christmas!

Glad you were not seriously injured, bar wire, shudder. My husband drove down from Breckenridge to Littleton yesterday and said there was blizzard like conditions at the tunnel. Nasty weather in the mountains and foothills yesterday but this mornings glorious sunshine and fresh snow on the slopes makes up for it. But our BV is going to stay in the garage (0f ay 8 this morning) with all the ice and snow on the roads up here.

Spooky feeling when the wind just ups and moves you sideways isn't it?

Riding with that kind of gust there's probably nothing you could have done to prevent an accident.
Something that could possibly help someone out in high winds, I read that people who are consciously aware of and practice counter steering do better in windy conditions.

Sorry for the crash, but glad that you had a happy landing. Take care of yourself with Motrin and lots of water, plus Arnica if you have it. You will be feeling the impact for a few days. I can't imagine riding in that kind of wind! Good luck and take it easy.

Winter riding in the north, perhaps one of the higher risk adventures. Exactly why I suggest new riders take a deep breath and get some experience first.

I've ridden leaned way over and still been blown over a full lane in the blink of an eye in Wyoming when a gust hit. The only other bike I saw while I was stuck in that windy area was a very heavy cruiser.

Holy moly, I have been out on the bike in what I thought was heavy wind, never been blown off the road, sounds damn scary. Glad you are okay, I will make a mental note to stay clear of high wind warnings, never paid them much mind.
