I have planned an event ride to achieve recognition of the SCMA Four Corners Ride. My current plan is to depart NOLA the day after Amerivespa 2014 heading west to San Ysidro, CA. Then north to Blaine, WA., east to Madawaska, ME., and finishing south to Key West, FL.

The total distance is approximately 7,000 mile from San Ysidro to Key West. Current plans are to complete the event in 18-10 hour days. This means typical travel speeds of 45-65 mph. You will have additional mileage leaving and returning to your home point.

The routing tries to avoid as much Interstate riding as possible. Due to security issues in Mexico none of the useful road will be included on the way to San Ysidro. However, I have planned about 700 miles on Canadian roadways. Passports are required for this cross border overnight ride.

If this would be an issue for some, alternate routes south of the Great Lakes are possible and will have been routed as well.

To be recognized for completion of this event it must be completed within 21 days from San Ysidro to Key West.

Send me a PM if you have an interest and the time to join this ride.

Will be following. Are you going across route 2 from littleton to Van Buren? If so you will be passing right by the house I grew up in Randolph, NH, right by my high school in Gorham, NH, and within 5 miles of my camp in West Bethel, ME.

See you in NOLA

I'm taking Rt 2 over to Rt 11 into Madawaska. Going down Rt 1, overnight in Van Buren, then down Rt 1 to I-95 to Portsmith, NH for the night. I'm anticipating needing to put some big miles on since I'll have to be cautious of the Moose, Deer, Bear and other creatures on Rt 2, 11, & 1. I'm thinking Interstates will be less problematical.

Yep especially Moose as they are active April through November up there. Dusk is the worst time. Though they are so tall you might be able to ride right under them.

Interstates are less of a problem but they still happen. Last year we had a big black bear run across I 93 in front of us.

I am going to overnight in San Ysidro tonight. I have a nephew in San Diego that would not be happy if I didn't spend some time sith him today.

Been averaging over 400 miles daily so far. The desert heat is tolerable until I saw 104 getting to Yuma. Last time I was there it was a very small town ..... no more, it's all growed up.

The winds are something else. I think it's the invisible dust devils on the road. First a huge gust to the left then an equally strong gust to the right all with in a split second of each. Just about blows you off the bike and the lean is like riding the Dragon in turns but you keep going straigjt. The first time was very exciting. As with most things that repeat themselves you do get used to them.

Doing well so far, getting good sleep, am surprised my apatite has been huge.. Think I may actually losing a little weight. But I am drinking all the water I can get in me.

I just realized that I will be in Maine on the Littleton, NH to Van Buren, ME on the 2nd. My camp is is just a few miles off route 2 if you want to stop for a break.

Just called my wife and she told me we will be heading to Gloucester, MA and then Portland, ME on the second. Dang it. If your schedule changes and you well be there on the 1st or the 3rd let me know.

Also, really watch your speed going through Gorham, NH. I went to school with the police chief and he is a hard ass. One of his guys stopped me for 5 mph over. Of course I name dropped and got out of the ticket. West Bethel and Bethel in Maine can also be a bit of a speed trap.

So far I am "on schedule". That can change but the bike is running well and I'm getting good rest at every stop. I'll call you when I get into NH from CAN.

Check out the schedule I posted and the link to follow my progress is there also.

I look forward to seeing you guys.

Bring that can with you,

Ralph

It's done!

All four corners visited and I took the day off to rest and will head home tomorrow. The odometer is setting on 14,151 miles. AND, I still have about 1,100 miles to go to get home - that will probably be two more days.

I was going to try a SS1000 but I think I am to tired to do it at an acceptable level of risk.

I have just about enough tire left to make it home. I'm just above the wear bars.

Congratulations!! Awesome accomplishment. So you're coming thru middle Tennessee sometime Thursday? I've got a lunch meeting that probably has me tied up until 2 or so. I'm guessing you're coming thru earlier than that?

If you want to come all the way to here tomorrow, I can offer you a room for the night.
