Modern Vespa

As some of you may have seen, this holiday season, I was blessed with the incredible generosity of one of my closest friends and his family.

I took delivery of it last night (merry Christmas indeed!), and it's insured and on its way to title transfer (need to get it smogged). It's a forest green Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and she's rarin' to go. Add a child seat and we're good to go.

Casey has named her Jenny (you know, Jenny the Jeep. that's how kids work. I think. Or mine is just particularly silly), and I plan on taking her this weekend to SF, something we haven't been able to do without lots of consternation, organization, and frustration.

Our mobility has increased 10x and this literally changes the way we can live our lives together. I can never repay my friend for his generosity, but I will do my best. It's been incredible, and this can keep me going as a transitionary period before we pick up a new vehicle.

Life! I've teared up so many times over the past few days, for both the good and bad, but at the end of the day, I am lucky to have such people in my life, and I hope to make the kind of difference to someone else's life that B made to mine.

Just finished registering her, I've got the child seat, and now I can have a relatively normal time with my girl!

Somehow I missed the earlier thread, but can relate to how separating from your mate can throw things out of kilter. I had a few friends that ponied up when I was going through my ordeal, but most were only interested in the gossip. I'm very happy for you and totally relate how important true friends can be at trying times in one's life. I appreciate you sharing your story as you've caused me to reflect on times not so long ago that seemed rather dark. You seem like a good dude, keep your head up and keep plugging, things will get better as time passes. Hopefully this event and the coming year will bring happier times for you and your daughter.

It's awesome that your friends have lifted this burden from you. The Jeep will offer peace of mind when weather or travel might otherwise intervene and create havoc on days you have with your daughter. Well done by your friends with such a generous gift!

We visited her cousins today who live 30 miles away (eg completely unwalkable). First time in probably 7 months. Good times had by all. Except my back, since I lifted my 100lb nephew straight up arms locked as if he were a toddler. Oops

Anyway. Thank you everyone for your kind words. I had to show my appreciation somewhere and I can't quite do it on the Bookface because I don't want to embarrass B He doesn't come to MV so I can gush without repercussions

We encounter stories with happy endings mostly in movies or books... and even then, usually consider them contrived or sappy. This is because we so seldom encounter such tales in real life.

Thank you for reaffirming the existence of real 'happily ever after...' stories.

Jenny is a good name. Here's to many happy memories with Jenny. So glad for you and your daughter. Good can come out of a bad situation. The universe was watching. Great friends are hard to come by but it seems you have one. 8)
