Hello All,

I hope you all had a great Christmas and you're looking forward to a fun 2014!

So, I was driving home from some shopping today, kids asleep in the back, a guy whizzes past on a Fireblade. Conversation goes like this...

Wife:You love your bikes don't you?
Me:they give me an enormous sense of well-being
Wife:You fancy a Harley?
Me:Does my love of motorbikes bother you?
Wife:Why should it? It's not like you smoke 50 a day or you're an alcoholic.....
Me:So you don't mind me spending my spare money on bikes?
Wife:No, not at all.
Me:Cool, I'm gonna buy a Ducati next week, ready for when I pass my test.
Wife:No. You can have a Vespa GTS, after you pass your test.

My question is this.

What the f*ck is going on?!! What does she want?!!

Hehe...maybe my luck has finally changed eh?

Have a great 2014 y'all!

I can't say with certainly what is going on with you and yours, but if that were a conversation in my car, it would best be defined as her giving me some slack... and then giving a little tug on the leash just to remind me it was there.

What's going on is your wife knows your limits better than you do.

A Vespa is way safer ride than a Ducati.

My advice is

1 Never answer a question with a question.

2 Don't try and figure out what's going on.

3 Don't buy a Ducati, buy a Moto Guzzi.

Your answer to , do you fancy a Harley. Should have been more along the lines of, Yes I like Harley's but they are so heavy and awkward! a Ducati is lighter and able to respond quickly to emergency situations so for safety sake I think I should get one after I pass my test.

Recently I went to a winery not far from home and the owners passion was restoring Ducatis. He had forty restored Ducs and two very rare ones, many scooter and older bikes of different makes. Doffo winery in Temecula, Ca. They do tours so you can see all of the bikes.

She's just said "anything up to about 750cc's is ok."

I asked how she knows this...said she talked to my Uncle. (Rides a ZZR 1400)

Then she says..."what are your thoughts on diamonds....?"

Laughing emoticon

I saw that one coming!

You'll know that she has been fully assimilated when she gets her own motorcycle license. It took me only 2 years after my Hubby bought his Harley to get mine. And I have NEVER ridden on my Husband's Harley. I hold a grudge and he bought the damn thing without permission.

So I took my motorcycle class and passed much to the chagrin of my better half. I started looking for a PTW. She really did not want me getting any but likely realized I would so she cut out a Vespa ad and said check this out. I began massive internet searching(which I usually do for any major purchase) and decided that this was made for me. Now I had driven a stick shift car for 30 years so gears did not scare me but after reviewing the Vespa and test riding it I was hooked and bought my now beloved 300 super. So as I enjoy learning this last summer I took the intermediate safety course offered in Illinois which is done on the same 300cc motorcycles that I learned on. It only confirmed to me how much I love riding my Vespa. My wife still is not likely happy with my riding but she knows it puts such a large smile on my face that she not only accepts it she enjoys when I ride as it makes me so happy. She has not yet been willing to take a ride but who knows. Also check out some of the Vespa Italian tours out there.

Best of Luck and Happy New Year

Funny you should say that.....

She said she's joking about the diamonds, but if I sell my LX she'll be pissed, because she wants to learn to ride it for her commute to work. She's so smart! 8)

You should start planning for matching 250s. Think of the Saturday afternoons away from the kids, on an adventure... Wish my husband had not reneged on learning to ride. We could work out the storage problem.

I don't think I'd be purchasing a H-D in the next 10 years or so. Maybe when I'm older....

Right now, I'm absolutely loving the W800 and Triumph Bonnie.

What's that? Just get a GTS? Oh, ok then....
