I sold my MP3 500 today so at least for a while I will no longer be part of the Modern Vespa MP3 community (but I will check back in now and then).

I just picked up one of BMW's new scooters, a BMW C650 GT, and even though I miss the two front wheels of the MP3, I really love this new ride. So for now it is going to be a big two wheel scooter with anti-lock brakes (and of course many other nice features).

I may have another MP3 in the future but probably only when Piaggio adds anti-lock brakes to their MP3 line.

So ride safe and thanks for all the help and info.

Congrats Also...

Hey if you find out how to lower the seat on that bike, please let me know.
I came so close to buying one myself.
But I didn't feel safe on my Tip-Toes.
The Gas tank cover is right in the front of the seat, and BMW didn't have a solution for lowering at the time.

Thanks Keith,

To answer your question, the 2014 model BMW C650 GT now has a low seat option. I thought about getting it but since I can almost sit flat footed on it I decided to get the standard seat with a little more cushion. One annoying thing about many of the BMW cycles was the seats were too high, but since they now offer a low seat option on most of their bikes, it looks like they finally figured out that everyone isn't 6'5" tall.

As I'm sure you know, the MP3 is a very nice unique style scooter but the lack of anti-lock brakes is one drawback. Hopefully the rumor is correct that the next MP3 models imported will have anti-lock brakes.

I almost kept my MP3 as a second bike but I will now wait to see what they have coming next year.

Now they need to figure out how overpriced they are. I know, cause I've had five of them. I always buy them used.

MP3 500 vs C650GT
Hi Qualt,
Congratulations - I went through the exact same metamorphosis as you last year. I sold my MP3 to a friend and got my 650, which I thought was great - smooth, everything a BMW should be. I missed my 3 wheels, however, and really missed how easy it was to get the MP3 out of the garage. A minor inconvenience, however.
Then, my wife rode on the 650 - and she hated it. Almost entirely because she was sitting up so high and away from the driver (me). Since she has been around through about 20 bikes over the years, including Ducati and MG, Triumph, about half a dozen bimmers and a number of others, I ultimately bent to her will and virtually swapped my pal back for the MP3 (not my best financial move, bike-wise - but I never seen to end up on the right side of these transactions).
Anyway, we are all happy now and it is truly great to get the MP3 back, although I miss the 650. Sigh.
Safe travels.
