Judy,

Having explored the country, the really best time is November. Great spring weather all over and not too hot with great water temperatures too. And most importantly, the summer school holidays and Christmas holiday season do not begin until December so there are no crowds anywhere. All of the resort towns are quiet and easy to secure accommodations in.

Happy travels,
Greg

Thank you so much everyone. Great info. Nov would be great. I'm thinking of being in NY/MA Sept Oct. Come back get stuff sorted and be off again. Got island fever really bad. Since myy knee had to be done i've been on the rock here 2yrs with only 2 side trips off to even smaller rocks in our chain. Awesome that they do a bus pass like that. 8) K very cool. Will definitely hook up with the Monits. 8) Hope they understand NY English. Laughing emoticon

just had a thought i should mention. if you possibly can avoid riding or driving at night on country roads then do so.

its russian roulette with roos, ive written off two cars and my brothers have both written off one each and my sister one also

ive lost count of how many roos ive hit, can be quite disturbing so if you have to drive at dawn, dusk or late night drive slowly

sorry about the bring down ,thought it was worth mentioning though

J i usually don't drive when i travel. I like to look at the scenery and you can''t do that and drive well. If i'm on an island i'll rent a scooter sometimes. Thanks for the heads up. Need Roo Bars on the cars over there. My Australian boyfriend (met him in Saudi but never went to AU) had them on his jeep. Very dangerous. Oddly enough we have a colony of Wallabies here on Oahu. They live up on the Pali (mountain) and rarely come out. Saw a pic of one on the news last month. Lived here a long time but never knew we had them. Escapees from the Zoo years ago. Laughing emoticon

Quick question. About how much do i need to spend a month there? Dec-Jan good? Would be taking the bus (with the pass) and staying in Hostels. As i crank out the more civilized (not to me Laughing emoticon ) countries i've not been to it's going to start to cost me more. As always thanks. 8)

I could fly into AUS and then fly out of NZ. I'll see if it's possible. Thanks Josh. Very cool.
Hey Judy

do one or the other. And maybe two trips all up.

whilst one is full of kiwis on the dole (austraya) the other is full of hardworking kiwis who, once filled with beer, are generally pretty nice.

The three years to do australia is no joke, but the three weeks for NZ will not do it justice. One part of one Island in NZ will take two weeks.

If you plan on Australia, pick a place and enjoy, otherwise all you will do is wear your butt out on a bus (worse than hell) or in a plane (you will be broke) (forget trains, our incompetent politicians believe the private sector do it better (with bigger subsidies and less service)).

If Sadelaide, located in the Basket Case State, is on your map, let me know.

(and not sure where josh is getting his prices from - if they are in Kiwi Pesos for NZ (best food in the world), yes, in AUD no - particularly in WA which is full of overpaid bogans from the mines, so add 50% to any estimate).

Thanks you guys. I realize Australia is HUGE. I haven't seen everything on Oahu yet and i've lived back here since '99. Will have a plan of the must see's. I can take a few months. Times not an issue. Money always sorta is. I have a cap that i put on myself. TWIN might just take you up on that. 8) J thanks that gives me an idea of what things cost.

Any MVers who are planning a long-haul flight to either of our fair Antipodean lands should try to see both because most will only make this trip once in a lifetime. Flight time across 'The Ditch' between Down-under and Godzone is 3 hours.

Judy...if you arrive in Auckland I will collect you from the airport and there is a bed waiting for you.

Anyone thinking of 'touring' NZ should bank on a minimum of three weeks. If you plan on seeing much of Oz plan on three years!
Like wise if Sadelaide is on the radar

Hello Judy, how are your plans going with visiting Aus, if you are taking the extra time and crossing the ditch to NZ then my wife and I would be more than happy to have you stay with us and show you around our Region. Just let us know what your plans are. Aus is a great place to holiday, the folk there are very friendly and it is an easy destination to relax into, but you do need to be aware of the distances between cities (unless flying) as this can be a real time killer if you have limited days. When we are over there we generally hire a car and have now driven from Noosa in the North (over several holidays) through to Adelaide in the South following the coastal highways, their roads are great and the small town hospitality on the journey is superb. If you keep away from their main holiday periods accommodation is easy to find, there is plenty of Backpacker accommodation just get your self a Lonely Planet Guide book and all will be well. As for tripping around our lovely country, if you are coming this way, I would be happy to discuss your options if required, as we are well travelled in touring both Islands. All the Best, Owie and Pauline.

Wow i'm am so,well speechless (rarity with me) from all the out pouring of help from you guys. Thank you. How can i not come now? Will start planning when i get back from NY. I have to have surgery on my right foot when i get back, so it'll keep me busy when i can't ride. However i'm not going to be down long. What the Dr doesn't know won't hurt her Shhh emoticon Laughing emoticon

In 68 days (who's counting) we will be moving from Melbourne to live on the Sunshine Coast Judy.

It's a great part of Australia with a weather pattern identical to Hawaii's.

You are always welcome at the Monit's.

Thanks you guys. Thought you already moved Monit? Have a safe move. You'll love the climate then. Can't get much better than Hawaii weather. 8)
