Good evening all,

My front brakes have recently been starting to make more noise than normal.

Under any breaking pressure i get the normal noise from the pads, but when I'm riding at lower speeds the front brakes (I think coming from both sides, but mostly the left side) make noise like the pad is barely touching the disc.

Is this normal? What would you recommend?

Thank you all.

Remove the calipers, then:
-Clean the slide pins, and very lightly grease prior to re-install.
-Lightly scuff the rotors with fine grit (220 min) sandpaper, and the pad surface as well.

I have had a small piece of grit embedded in the MP3 caliper and just scrapping the edge of the disk. The extra load of braking or cornering would produce a horrendous sound just because of the slight give in the wheel bearings etc.

So if your pads are OK this may be the cause.

Finally got around to checking my front brakes...

Looks like i was all the way down to the pad on the top 3rd of one of my pads.

I have extra pads that I can swap in, but the question is, does the disk look bad enough to necessitate being replaced?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

THANK YOU!

The disk is OK.

FYI brake disks on bikes can be much more worn (eg Less Flat) than for cars, because the brake Pads are softer than on cars, hence quickly wear to accommodate whatever profile the disk presents.

Do you know at what point pads are replaced? What thickness in mm?

Normally there is a wear groove present, indicating the minimum depth required

Rare on scooter pads.

Replace when the thickness gets down to ~1.8mm or about 1/16". I confess they're often less than that by the time I get around to it.

Well, if yours has a groove, then it will look something like this... the thickness at the groove will be aprox 1/16"

I replace mine every 15,000 miles. Don't even check them anymore, 15,000 new pads as the old ones are just worn out. Your mileage may very.
