I'd noticed that this area looked a bit wet at times, but today while the sun was on it, I could see some dried crud which appears to have come from the hose connected above.
Can't imagine this should be happening, what's a cure for this?

Thanks

Looks like some coolant that dried up on the hot engine.

Thanks Tierney! I should have looked a little deeper before posting. I think I'll pop that original clamp off, clean the area and put a new screw type clamp on. I'm leery about over-tightening it though, that fitting is plastic.

Thanks again -

Make sure that hose end isn't hard or brittle . If it is, you may get by on trimming it back some, getting it to work until you get a new one. Or maybe, the original clamp is not doing its job properly and a new one will work. Good Luck

I'd get it hot and look for leaks while running .Then shut off and keep looking. You might luck out and see where.

Thanks YaYaDave for the thought on the gasket...Hadn't thought of that but I'll bet one goes between the fitting and the engine head. I'll see if I can get some gasket material before breaking off the oem clamp.

Mudnman - That area has been wet previously and now has the dried crud, so no doubts about where it's leaking; either from the hose or from a failed gasket. Either way with the Arizona heat coming soon I've got to get it buttoned up tight.
Thanks!

Check that clamp VERY carefully...- mine broke loose on my GTS, and cost me a new water pump- myself and Paul (brown beret ) are going though the process of changing them to better clamps. I know a few folks that do that to their new scoots when they come in!

What clamps are you and Paul going for?? just the bog standard screw (jubilee type) clamps??

Yes, a new hose [the old one is 'fat' at the leaking point], better clamp, and perhaps a gasket at the engine is needed. These Arizona summer temps will stress even the most prepared engine.

I'm headed to the dealership today, bet he'll have to order the hose, but at least I can clean the area and put a new clamp on it. Seems like there's little chance of trimming the hose where it's leaking; there just isn't any slack there to pull on.

Thanks for the help guys!

Looks like a rim of leakage right around where the gasket should seal.

Well I would have assumed a gasket there too, two hard surfaces mating, but no! I cleaned up the area, put on a good worm drive clamp, refilled the leaked antifreeze with distilled water and called it quits.

I'll order a new hose just in case but the old one didn't look too bad, so no emergency.

Not a fan of those oem clamps, this one came off at the touch of the screwdriver. The only thing holding it together was a row of several tiny teeth, which in my opinion could have been jostled loose by hitting a good bump.

No gasket? Strange, metal on metal with no gasket, o-ring, or sealant makes no sense to me.... Keep an eye on it. If it starts to leak try some Permatex Hi-temp sealant.

Yes, I'm surprised too. I went through Scooter West's entire parts listings related to thermostat and thermostat housing and other pages, but no gasket or 'O' rings listed.

The mating surfaces between the housing and engine block are smooth, no indents or bumpers, so yes I'll watch this joint carefully.

Well those Vespa engineers know what they're doing. Just took a 50 mile ride, and not a hint of lost antifreeze in the area. So I have to rethink gasketry...Maybe on a little engine there's not much pressure. But no leaks, so I'll relax.

you also might want to check the smaller hose and clamp too
to be sure that one is also not leaking.
and what looks like a hose in the upper left of the pic' looks
like it has a kink in it so might want to check that too.

Apparently my 2006 GT200 has been pissing coolant this winter to the point of needing a bucket. Luckily its host is a mechanic and he's going to replace the lines for me. Joy of used scoots. Only had it a year and its cost me more than my almost 30 year old Honda.
